Create draft transfer orders from finished goods produced on work orders, choose destinations, post orders, and prepare for 3PL WMS push or FBA reconciliation.
Collection: Work Orders: Getting Started
Priority: P0
Who this is for
Shipping and logistics staff moving finished goods from a co-manufacturer or production location to a 3PL, FBA, or other destination warehouse.
Before you begin
- Assembly orders completed — finished goods in inventory (Complete assembly orders)
- Destination warehouses configured (Configure co-manufacturer setup)
Steps
1. Open Shipment Planning
Go to Inventory → Work Orders → Shipment Planning.
The Ready to Ship sub-tab lists finished goods available to transfer, filterable by source warehouse, destination warehouse, work order, and SKU.
2. Select finished goods
Check the rows for products and quantities you want to ship in this transfer.
If lot tracking is enabled, toggle Show Lots to select specific lots for each line.
3. Create Transfer Order
Click Create Transfer Order.
In the modal:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Destination Warehouse | Where goods are shipping (3PL, FBA prep, internal DC) |
| Transfer Order Status | Draft (planning) or Posted (execute immediately) |
| Link Inbound Shipments | Optional — for FBA/AWD destinations (see Reconcile to Amazon) |
| Quantities | Confirm qty per line (and lot if applicable) |
Click Create to save the draft transfer order.
4. Review draft transfer orders
Draft TOs appear in your transfer order list. Review quantities and destination before posting.
When your team uses internal notifications or custom shipment fields on draft TOs, configure those per your account setup before posting.
5. Post the transfer order
From Ready to Ship, select lines and click Mark as Posted, or post from the transfer order detail.
What posting does:
- Creates an associated sales order to ship so inventory can be depleted when shipped
- Moves the TO to the Posted TOs sub-tab
See What happens when I post a transfer order?
6. Next steps by destination type
| Destination type | Next action |
|---|---|
| 3PL warehouse | Push to WMS — sends inbound shipment/ASN to your 3PL (Push to WMS guide) |
| FBA / AWD | Reconcile to existing inbound shipments when creating or after posting (FBA reconciliation) |
| Internal warehouse | Ship All SOs or receive at destination as applicable |
Posted TOs sub-tab
Switch to Posted TOs for bulk actions on posted transfer orders:
- Push All to WMS — 3PL destinations
- Ship All SOs — Mark associated sales orders shipped (depletes inventory)
- Receive All — Receive at destination warehouse
What happens next
- Inventory depletes from the co-man/production location when the associated sales order ships
- 3PL receives ASN via WMS push; FBA shipments link via reconciliation
- Move work orders and production run to Completed when all goods are shipped
Co-manufacturer workflow callout
Typical co-man shipping flow:
- Create draft transfer order when planning team has shipment details
- Post when ready to execute
- Push to WMS for 3PL (posts as inbound shipment/ASN)
- For FBA, reconcile one transfer order to multiple inbound shipments if Amazon split the inbound plan
