Finish assembly orders after Quick Complete — add lot numbers, record actual yield, set Planned vs Actual consumption, and complete to finalize unit costs.

Collection: Work Orders: Getting Started
Priority: P0

Who this is for

Production and inventory staff finalizing assembly orders created by Quick Complete, especially when lot tracking and yield variance apply.

Before you begin

  • Quick Complete has run for the batch (Record a production batch)
  • Assembly orders appear in the work order sidebar under Assembly Orders
  • Lot numbers available for lot-tracked finished goods and components

Steps

1. Open the assembly order

From the work order detail sidebar, click an assembly order under Assembly Orders (Main Assembly or Sub-Assembly).

Alternatively, go to Inventory → Assembly Orders and search by work order or AO number.

2. Add lot numbers (finished goods)

For lot-tracked finished goods:

  1. Open the assembly order form
  2. Add or select a lot number for the output SKU
  3. Create a new lot if one does not exist

This is why Auto Complete AO should remain unchecked during Quick Complete when lot tracking is required.

3. Record actual yield

If actual output differs from planned (e.g., planned 10,000 but yielded 9,900):

  1. Edit Actual Quantity on the assembly order header
  2. Components with Actual consumption basis scale with the yield
  3. Components with Planned basis stay at fixed BOM quantities (typical for labels and packaging)

See Planned vs Actual consumption and Configure consumption basis.

4. Review component depletion

The BOM line table shows:

ColumnMeaning
PredictedPlanned component qty from BOM
ActualQty that will be depleted (editable)
BasisPlanned or Actual — controls scaling with yield

Raw material lots deplete on FIFO (first in, first out) when the assembly order completes.

5. Review manufacturing service fee

The assembly order includes the manufacturing service fee per unit from the work order, combined with received raw material costs in the finished goods unit cost.

See How is manufacturing service fee included in unit cost?

6. Complete the assembly order

When lots, quantities, and basis are correct:

  1. Set status to Complete, or click the complete action
  2. Luminous depletes components and adds finished goods to inventory

Repeat for each assembly order in the batch.

What happens next

  • Finished goods appear in inventory at the production/destination location
  • They become available in Shipment Planning when ready to ship (Ship finished goods)
  • Work order sidebar metrics update: Total Produced, In AOs, Available for AO

Co-manufacturer workflow callout

Typical co-man BOM setup:

  • Bulk raw materials — Actual basis (scale with yield)
  • Labels, boxes, packaging — Planned basis (fixed qty per batch regardless of small yield variance)

Record the actual yield on each batch before completing the assembly order so component depletion reflects reality.

Still stuck?

Contact support if component depletion looks wrong after completion — include the assembly order number and expected vs actual quantities.
