red-DV-3980or equivalent cost rules integration)
Two cost rule use cases in Work Orders
1. Manufacturing service fee (work order level)
When creating a work order or production run, Luminous can auto-resolve the Service Fee (per unit) from cost rules based on:
- Co-manufacturer vendor
- Finished good SKU
- Planned quantity (tier matching)
The resolved fee is baked into assembly order unit cost when production completes.

2. Extra costs on generated purchase orders
When generating POs from BOM shortages, cost rules can add extra cost line items (tariffs, freight, handling) as separate PO lines. These flow to your accounting integration.
In the Generate PO preview, click Preview Cost Rules to see which rules will apply.

Steps
1. Open Cost Rules
Navigate to Inventory → Inventory Admin → Cost Rules and click Create Cost Rule.
2. Create manufacturing service fee rules
Create rules that match your co-manufacturer pricing tiers:
- Condition: Vendor + SKU + quantity range
- Action: Set unit price / fee amount
3. Create PO extra cost rules
Create rules for raw material purchasing extras:
- Condition: Vendor, product category, origin country, etc.
- Action: Add fee line (tariff, freight, etc.)
4. Verify on work order create
Create a test work order. Confirm the Service Fee field auto-populates and shows a cost rule indicator. You can reset to the rule price if manually overridden.
5. Verify on Generate PO preview
Generate a test PO from a work order shortage. Confirm Preview Cost Rules shows expected extra lines.
What happens next
Ops teams see accurate service fees on production runs (By Product view) and correct PO totals when purchasing (Generate purchase orders).
