Extra PO line items from cost rules — tariffs, freight, and fees auto-applied when generating purchase orders from work order shortages.
Collection: Work Orders: FAQ & Troubleshooting
Priority: P1
Short answer
Cost rules can automatically add extra cost line items to purchase orders generated from work order BOM shortages — things like tariffs, freight surcharges, or handling fees.
How to see them
In the Confirm Purchase Order Generation preview:
- Look for a badge showing the count of cost rules that will apply
- Click Preview cost-rule extra costs to see each computed extra line and amount — review, edit or remove lines, then click Add to extra costs to apply them (nothing is applied until you confirm)
Why they matter
- Extra costs appear as separate line items on the PO
- They flow to your accounting integration (e.g., as fee lines)
- They affect total PO cost beyond raw material unit price
Unit cost vs extra costs
| Source | What it sets |
|---|---|
| Supplier SKU pricing | Base unit cost per material line |
| Cost rules (material) | Resolved unit price when rules override supplier price |
| Cost rules (extra costs) | Additional fee lines (tariff, freight, etc.) |
Setup
Admins configure rules under Set up cost rules.
