Red highlights on Shared Components or BOM rows mean a raw material shortage — here's how Luminous calculates it and how to fix it.
Collection: Work Orders: FAQ & Troubleshooting
Priority: P0
Short answer
A material row is red when Luminous calculates a shortage — you do not have enough on-hand or allocated incoming stock to cover the work order's requirement.
How shortage is calculated
Shortage = Required − Available − Inc. Allocated
- Required — Total qty needed for work order(s) in the run
- Available — On Hand minus Committed (All): stock not already reserved by other work orders (can be negative)
- Inc. Allocated — Qty reserved from open POs via Allocate from Incoming
If the result is greater than zero, the row shows a shortage (highlighted red).
Common causes
| Cause | Fix |
|---|---|
| No stock on hand | Generate purchase orders |
| Stock on order but not allocated | Allocate from Incoming |
| PO received but not linked | Bulk Receive from work order sidebar |
| Demand from other active work orders | Check Committed (All) column — other WOs may hold stock |
After receiving POs
Once you bulk-receive linked POs, shortages should clear and red highlighting disappears. Only then should you move the work order to In Progress.
