Starting a work order while material shortages remain shows a warning — receive POs or allocate incoming stock first to avoid negative available inventory.

Short answer
Luminous no longer hard-blocks starting a work order with shortages. When you click Start, a Start with Stock Shortages? warning lists the short materials; if you continue, stock is committed and available quantities may go negative. To start cleanly, clear all material shortages first. Red rows in Shared Components or Bill of Materials mean stock is still short.
Checklist to clear shortages
- Allocate from Incoming — Reserve qty from open POs (guide)
- Generate Purchase Orders — Create POs for remaining gaps (guide)
- Bulk Receive — Receive linked POs when materials arrive (guide)
- Refresh the BOM table — red rows should disappear
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| PO created but not received | Bulk Receive from work order sidebar |
| Incoming not allocated | Allocate from Incoming before relying on on-hand |
| Wrong warehouse location | Verify production location has received stock |
| Other WOs committed stock | Check Committed column |
