Creating a foreign-currency estimate
Estimates in Luminous are invoices saved in Estimate status. If your account has the multi-currency feature enabled, estimates now retain their foreign currency, exchange rate, and all presentment amounts exactly like regular invoices do.
Step-by-step
- Navigate to Sales → Invoices → Create Invoice (or open an existing estimate to edit it).
- Select your customer. If the customer has a default order currency set on their company record, Luminous will pre-populate the currency field automatically.
- Open the currency panel (look for the currency / exchange-rate section near the order totals area on the Line Items tab).
- Choose the foreign currency from the dropdown (e.g. CAD, EUR). Luminous fetches the exchange rate for the order date automatically.
- Enter line prices in the foreign currency. The display updates to show presentment values; base-currency equivalents are calculated in the background.
- Save as Estimate. The currency code, exchange rate, and all foreign-currency totals are persisted. When you reopen the document, the form reloads in the foreign currency — no data is lost.
- Convert to a sales order when ready. The currency context carries through the conversion.
Things to know
- Multi-currency must be enabled for your account. Contact your Luminous administrator if the currency field is not visible.
- The base-currency amounts are always what Luminous stores internally and uses for reporting. The foreign-currency amounts are the presentment layer shown to the customer.
- If you switch currencies or change the order date, the exchange rate is refreshed automatically. You can also type a rate manually.
- Resetting to the base currency (using the reset option in the currency panel) converts all line prices back to base values.
