Assigning a lot number at production reporting time
For lot-tracked finished goods, Luminous now lets you create and assign a lot in the Report Production dialog itself — you no longer need to open the draft assembly order afterward to add one.
Who this applies to
Anyone using Work Orders with a finished-good SKU that has lot tracking enabled.
Step-by-step
- Open the work order and scroll to Production & Logistics Steps.
- Click Report Production on the relevant step.
- In the dialog, enter the Quantity Produced for this batch.
- If the output SKU is lot-tracked, a Lot Number field and an Expiry Date field appear:
- Lot Number – enter your batch/lot identifier. If you leave this blank but fill in an Expiry Date, Luminous auto-generates a lot number from the manufacturer code and dates.
- Expiry Date – enter the expiry date for this batch. If you leave both Lot Number and Expiry Date blank, no lot is created for this submission — fill in at least one of the two fields if the output SKU requires lot tracking.
- Production Date – optional. Defaults to today if not supplied.
- Click Complete Step.
Luminous creates the lot and stamps it on the assembly order in a single transaction. The lot appears immediately in the lot-movement report and in Shipment Planning.
What happens if I skip the lot fields?
If the output SKU requires lot tracking and you submit without a lot, the system will block the assembly order from being completed until a lot is assigned. You can add the lot directly on the assembly order form before completing it.
Recording a correction to an earlier production entry
If you reported the wrong quantity on a previous batch:
- In the Report Production dialog, switch the entry type to Correction.
- Select the earlier production entry you are adjusting from the picker.
- Enter the adjustment quantity (positive to add units, negative to remove them).
A correction inherits the lot of the entry it corrects — no new lot is created, and the corrected batch stays on its original lot in Shipment Planning and the lot-movement report.
One lot per batch, not one per work order
Each time you click Report Production, a new lot is created for that batch. If you report in three partial batches, you get three lots — one per report. This matches physical reality: each production run on the floor is a distinct traceable batch.
