Overview
Yes — on both Assembly and Disassembly Order forms, the Bill of Materials field is a live search that works independently of the Select SKU field. You can type a BOM name first; Luminous will then resolve which SKU(s) to use.
How BOM-first selection works
BOM linked to a single SKU
- On the Create Assembly Order form, type the BOM name into the Bill of Materials search box.
- Select the BOM from the dropdown.
- Luminous automatically loads the linked SKU into the Select SKU field — no manual SKU search required.
BOM linked to multiple SKUs
- Select the BOM from the Bill of Materials search box.
- The Select SKU dropdown is narrowed to show only the SKUs attached to that BOM.
- Choose the specific SKU you want to build.
BOM with no available SKU
If all SKUs on a BOM are discontinued or archived, Luminous shows a message: "This BOM has no SKU available to build. Pick another BOM or a SKU directly."
Changing the BOM on an existing Draft order
If you edit a Draft Assembly Order and select a different BOM, Luminous will show a confirmation dialog before applying the change. Confirming will recompose the component lines and extra costs based on the new BOM. This cannot be undone without manually re-selecting the previous BOM.
Starting from the SKU instead
The traditional SKU-first flow still works: search for the finished-goods SKU first, and the Bill of Materials dropdown will show the BOMs attached to that SKU.
