MOQ and purchase-unit conversion can make Generate Purchase Orders order more than the raw shortage — here's why and how to read the preview.
Collection: Work Orders: FAQ & Troubleshooting
Priority: P1
Short answer
Luminous may order more than the shortage because of minimum order quantity (MOQ) rules and purchase unit conversion (buying in cartons, kg, etc. vs your stockkeeping unit).
Purchase unit conversion
If your supplier sells in a different unit than you track inventory (e.g., cartons of 100 EA), Luminous converts the shortage to purchase units and rounds up as needed.
Hover the quantity tooltip in the Generate Purchase Orders preview to see the conversion calculation.
MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)
If the converted quantity is below the supplier's MOQ, Luminous raises the order qty to the MOQ minimum.
An MOQ badge and tooltip appear on affected lines in the preview dialog.
Example
- Shortage: 10 EA
- Purchase unit: 1 Carton = 100 EA
- MOQ: 5 Cartons
- Result: Order 5 Cartons (500 EA) — above shortage due to MOQ
What you can do
- Review and manually adjust quantity in the preview (MOQ may re-enforce on save)
- Update supplier SKU MOQ settings if incorrect (Configure supplier SKUs)
- Add unit conversion rules if missing
