Overview

The Sales Order Grid now has a standalone filters panel that lives independently from the column visibility controls. This prevents a long-standing issue where applying a filter to a column and then hiding that column would result in a blank grid with no visible explanation — filters on hidden columns now appear in yellow with a tooltip so you always know they're active.

⚠ This feature is currently in Beta. It must be enabled via the feature flag. Behavior or UI details may change before general availability.

How It Works (Step-by-Step)

Navigating to the Sales Order Grid:

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Operations > Click Sales Order Grid in the left sub-navigation.

Adding a filter:

  1. At the top of the grid, click + Add Filter.

  1. Select the column/field you want to filter by (e.g., Order Status, Channel, Item SKU).
  2. Choose your condition and value, then confirm. The active filter appears as a tag in the filter bar.

Managing columns independently:

  1. Click the ≡ Columns icon on the right edge of the grid to open the column picker.
  2. Toggle columns on or off by clicking them. Hiding a column does not remove any active filters on that column.

Identifying filters on hidden columns:

  1. If a filter is applied to a column that has been hidden, its filter tag in the filter bar will appear in yellow.
  2. Hover over the yellow tag to see a tooltip explaining that the filter applies to a hidden column.

Saving a preset:

  1. After configuring your filters and columns the way you want, scroll to the bottom of the left sidebar and click Save Preset to save the view for reuse.

Key Features / Options

Yellow filter tags for hidden columns — Any filter whose column is not currently visible turns yellow. This is a visual warning so you understand why results may look narrowed even when no filter column is visible in the table.

Filters panel is decoupled from column visibility — Previously, filters were tied to visible columns in the header. Now they live in their own bar at the top, independent of what columns are shown.

Column search — The column picker panel has a "Search columns..." input at the top, making it faster to find and toggle specific columns, especially when working with the many available hidden columns (e.g., Order Date, Ship By Date, Warehouse Group, Tags, Shipping Address, etc.).

Filter persistence with presets — Filters and column visibility can both be saved together as a named preset using the Save Preset option at the bottom of the sidebar.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Don't hide a column without checking your filters first. Before hiding a column, check the filter bar to confirm there's no active filter on it — or be aware the tag will turn yellow if there is.
  • Yellow tags are your friend. If your grid looks unexpectedly empty or over-filtered, scan the filter bar for yellow tags. Those filters are narrowing results even though their column isn't visible.
  • Use "Clear All" to reset quickly. The Clear All link in the filter bar removes all active filters at once, which is the fastest way to get back to an unfiltered view.
  • Save Preset after tuning your view. If you've built a useful combination of filters and column configuration, save it as a preset so you don't have to rebuild it next session.
  • Beta caveat. Because this feature is behind a flag and still in Beta, its behavior may differ slightly from what your team documented in internal workflows. Treat screenshots or step-by-step guides written before this update with caution.

FAQs & Troubleshooting

My grid is blank — why? Check the filter bar at the top of the grid for any active filter tags. If any tags are yellow, those filters are applied to columns that are currently hidden — they're still narrowing your results. Either clear those filters or make the relevant column visible again to understand what's being filtered.

I don't see the new filter UI — where is it? This feature is behind the flag and is currently in Beta. If your account doesn't have it enabled, you'll see the previous filter behavior. Contact your Luminous support to request Beta access.

Can I still filter by columns I've hidden? Yes — filters on hidden columns remain fully active. The yellow tag and tooltip are simply there to make it visible to you that a filter is running on a field you can't see in the grid.

Will my existing presets still work? Yes, existing saved presets are preserved. However, if a preset was created before this update and contains filters tied to the old column-header UI, it may behave slightly differently. Review and re-save your key presets after the update is enabled.

I applied a filter but nothing changes in the grid — what's wrong? Make sure you've confirmed the filter (some filter types require pressing Enter or clicking a confirm button). Also check whether the filter is conflicting with another active filter — multiple filters stack with AND logic by default.

The Channel filter shows a number instead of a name (e.g., "Channel is 12") — is that normal? Yes, this is expected behavior in some cases. The channel filter displays the channel ID value. This is not a bug introduced by the new filter UI.
