⚠ This feature rolls out per-account behind feature settings.

Overview

Four dedicated drilldown reports give you a per-SKU breakdown behind the summary numbers on the Stock Snapshot Report: Transaction COGS, Receiving, Adjustment, and In-Transit. Use these when you need to trace why a Stock Snapshot number looks the way it does — for example, tracing a COGS figure back to the individual shipments that produced it, or seeing exactly which adjustments moved a SKU's quantity during a period.

How It Works (Step-by-Step)

Finding a drilldown report By design, each of the relevant columns on the Stock Snapshot Report (Received, Adjustment, In-Transit) is meant to link directly to its own drilldown report — clicking the column takes you straight into the matching detail view described below. You can also reach each drilldown directly:

  1. Go to Insights > Accounting > Drill Down.
  2. Choose one of the four dedicated pages: Transaction COGS, Receiving drill-down, Adjustment Drill-down, or In-Transit Drill-down.

Transaction COGS

  1. Open Insights > Accounting > Drill Down > Transaction COGS.
  2. Use the All, Missed COGS, By Order, and Summary tabs to view COGS at different levels of detail — All shows every shipped line (Ship Date, SKU, Product Name, Channel, Order Number, Cost); By Order rolls the same data up per order (Total Qty, Total COGS, Total Revenue).
  3. Filter by ship date range, SKU, product name, or channel.
  4. Use Actions to Export, Re-apply Costs to Past Shipments, Rebuild Inventory Cost Layers, Fix Missing Inventory Costs, or Apply SKU Costs to Period (Import).

Switching your COGS recognition basis

  1. On the Transaction COGS screen, find the Recognize COGS by dropdown. It offers three bases: Order Date, Order Ship Date, or Per Shipment.
  2. Changing the dropdown alone only previews the report — it doesn't change anything company-wide.
  3. To make the change permanent, use the Save as Default action next to the dropdown. Because this applies retroactively and company-wide (not just to your own view), a confirmation dialog spells that out before it's saved.
  4. An always-visible indicator on the screen shows whichever basis is currently saved as the company default.
  5. Once saved, the same basis also feeds the Stock Snapshot report's Sold Qty/Value figures, so the two reports agree with each other. Saving a company-wide default, and the Stock Snapshot reconciliation — ship off by default behind two separate account-level settings that need to be turned on for your account. If you don't see the Save as Default action or the indicator, this is very likely why — contact Luminous Support to have these enabled rather than assuming the feature hasn't shipped.

Receiving

  1. Open Insights > Accounting > Drill Down > Receiving drill-down.
  2. Filter by received date, SKU, warehouse, supplier, receiving type, shipment type, or extra cost label. Toggle Exclude Transfer Orders if you only want external receipts.
  3. Switch between All receipts (line-level detail: SKU, Warehouse, Received Date, Receiving Report #, PO #, Supplier, Received By, Received Qty, Unit Price, Line Total, Lot #, Tracking) and Summary.
  4. Export the results if needed.

Adjustment

  1. Open Insights > Accounting > Drill Down > Adjustment Drill-down.
  2. Filter by date range, SKU, warehouse, or product category.
  3. Review the summary tiles (Net Adjustment Value, Rows, SKUs Affected, Categories) and the line-level table (SKU, Date, Warehouse, Category, Type, Reference, Qty Delta, Running Balance, Remarks, Adjusted By, Lot #).
  4. Use the Type column and its filter to narrow to a specific kind of adjustment: External 3PL Sync Variance (a stock variance Luminous posts automatically when your 3PL's counts disagree with Luminous), Transfer, Manual Adjustment Entry, or Return / Defective Restock (inventory rolled back in when a return is restocked).

In-Transit

  1. Open Insights > Accounting > Drill Down > In-Transit Drill-down.
  2. Set an As of date & time, and optionally filter by SKU, Source (PO shipment, Purchase order, etc.), PO Status, Shipment Status, Source/Destination Warehouse Group, and Source/Destination Warehouse.
  3. Use + Add exclusion to exclude specific pathways (e.g., AWD → FBA transfers).
  4. Review the summary tiles (Lines Shown, Qty in Transit, Value in Transit) and the line-level table.
  5. Click Presets to save a configuration for reuse, or Export the results.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use the By Order tab on Transaction COGS when you want a per-order total rather than a per-line breakdown.
  • Most businesses that ship partial orders should set Recognize COGS by to Per Shipment — Order Ship Date (the current default) doesn't account for partial shipments, which the team building this called out as increasingly common across customers.
  • Save In-Transit configurations as Presets once you've nailed down your status and pathway rules — you shouldn't need to reconfigure this each time.
  • You don't need to manually track Transfer Orders as in-transit: when a Sales Order tied to a TO ships, Luminous automatically marks the corresponding PO as in-transit for you.
  • In-Transit value is calculated differently depending on the source: for a PO, it's unit cost (non-actualized if not yet received) plus any added variable/extra costs; for a TO, it's the depleted cost layer pulled from the originating Sales Order, plus any added extra costs.
  • Use Exclude Transfer Orders on the Receiving drilldown if you only want to see receipts from outside suppliers, not internal transfers.

FAQs & Troubleshooting

Q: Where do I find these drilldown reports?

A: Insights > Accounting > Drill Down. They are separate pages, not columns inside the main Stock Snapshot Report.

Q: Why don't I see these reports at all?

A: This feature is gated behind a feature toggle and may not be enabled on your account. Contact your account manager or support to request it.

Q: How do I switch COGS recognition basis?

A: On the Transaction COGS screen, use the Recognize COGS by dropdown (Order Date, Order Ship Date, or Per Shipment), then click Save as Default to make it the permanent company-wide basis. Changing the dropdown without saving only previews the report.

Q: I don't see the Save as Default action or the company-default indicator on Transaction COGS.

A: This persistence behavior ships behind a per-account setting that isn't on by default. Contact Luminous Support to have it enabled — it likely hasn't shipped to your account yet rather than having moved somewhere else.

Q: Why doesn't my Stock Snapshot report's Sold Qty/Value reflect the COGS basis I saved?

A: The Stock Snapshot reconciliation is a second, separate per-account setting from the Transaction COGS save-as-default behavior. Both need to be enabled for the two reports to agree with each other.

Q: What are the possible values in the Adjustment drilldown's Type column?

A: External 3PL Sync Variance, Transfer, Manual Adjustment Entry, and Return/Defective Restock.

Q: Can I filter the Adjustment drilldown by adjustment type (manual adjustment, return, 3PL variance, etc.)?

A: The Type column in the results appears intended to show this, but it wasn't confirmed against real data.
