Overview
Luminous has introduced a new persistent top navigation bar as the next phase of its UI refresh (following the color palette update). The bar stays fixed at the top of the screen while you scroll, and consolidates the tools you reach for most often.
What's in the top bar
| Zone | What you'll find |
|---|---|
| Left | Luminous logo (links to the home page); hamburger menu toggle on tablet/phone |
| Center | Global search — always visible; click or type to open, results drop below the bar. The Ask AI button inside the search field opens Agent Chat (if enabled) |
| Right | Help & Support · What's New (changelog, with unread badge) · Notifications · Account menu |
What moved out of the sidebar
The following items that previously lived in the sidebar footer are now in the top bar:
- Search — now an always-visible inline field in the center of the bar
- Help & Support (Pylon)
- Agent Chat — now the Ask AI button inside the search field
- What's New / changelog
- Notifications
- Account / profile menu
The sidebar now shows only navigation links and, at the very bottom, the Collapse / Expand menu control.
Using global search
- Click the search field in the center of the top bar, or press Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) / ⌘K (Mac).
- Type your query — results appear in a dropdown beneath the bar.
- Click a result or press Enter to navigate. Press Escape to close.
On phones, the side clusters briefly slide out of the way when the search field is active so the results have full-width space.
Collapsing and expanding the sidebar
- Click Collapse menu at the very bottom of the sidebar. The panel shrinks to an icon rail and the button label changes to Expand menu.
- Peek open: while the sidebar is collapsed, hover over it (or move keyboard focus inside it) and it temporarily expands so you can read labels and click a link. It collapses again once your pointer or focus leaves.
- On touch devices a tap inside the collapsed rail also peeks it open.
- Click Expand menu (or the collapse toggle again) to pin the sidebar back open permanently.
Mobile and tablet behavior
Below the desktop breakpoint the sidebar becomes a slide-in drawer rather than a docked panel:
- Tap the ☰ menu icon in the top-left of the top bar to open the drawer.
- Tap outside it (or tap the close button) to dismiss it.
- The Quick Scan button remains accessible in the top bar on narrow screens.
FAQs
Has anything changed about how features work? No. Search, notifications, and all other tools work exactly as before — they have just moved into the top bar.
The sidebar looks different. Is something missing? The top-utility items (search, help, notifications, account) have moved to the top bar. Navigation links and the Collapse / Expand control are still in the sidebar.
I don't see the new top bar yet. The top bar is rolling out progressively. If your account has not yet received it, you will see it when it becomes available for your account — no action is needed on your part.
Can I switch back to the old navigation? During the preview period some accounts may see an option to try the new navigation early or revert to the classic layout. Once the new bar becomes the default for all accounts, the classic layout will be retired.
