Short answer: yes, but the two directions work differently.
| Direction | What works | How it's set up |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify → Luminous | Order metafields (and order note attributes) can be copied into Luminous sales order custom fields when orders are pulled in. | Incoming Custom Field Mapping on the Shopify channel |
| Luminous → Shopify | Product and variant metafields can be written to Shopify when Luminous pushes products. The values can come from Luminous product custom fields. | Product push mapping on the Shopify integration |
Shopify product metafields are not synced into Luminous custom fields.
Shopify order metafields → Luminous custom fields
Before you start
Luminous only reads an order's metafields from Shopify if that option is turned on for your account. Without it, the order data Luminous receives has no metafields to map. Ask Luminous support to enable order metafield fetching for your account.
Steps
- Go to Manage → Channels. On your Shopify channel, click ⋮ → Edit.
- Scroll to Incoming Custom Field Mapping.
- Click Add Custom Field.
- In the Incoming Field column, enter the path to the value in the Shopify order data. This can be a simple dotted path or a JSONPath expression (for example, one starting with
$or using[ ]). - In the LUM Field column, enter the Luminous custom field the value should be stored in.
- Save the channel.
To find the right Incoming Field path for a metafield, contact Luminous support. They can look at the fields on one of your Shopify orders.
What to expect
- The mapping runs on orders as they are pulled in.
- Each mapping row copies the value into the order's custom field.
- If the Shopify value is empty, that row is skipped and the Luminous field is not changed.
- A row with no LUM Field is skipped.
- A row that errors fails on its own. The other rows still apply.
- Some mappings can target line-item values. When they do, order totals are recalculated afterward.
Luminous product custom fields → Shopify product metafields
Luminous can write metafields when it creates or updates a product in Shopify. This is set up in the Shopify product push mapping, which is an integration mapping. You map a Luminous source field, such as a product custom field, to a Shopify metafield target. Each metafield needs a namespace, a key, a type and a value. Luminous skips any metafield that is missing one of these.
- Product-level metafields are written to the Shopify product.
- Variant-level metafields are written to each variant after Shopify returns the variant IDs.
- Some Shopify-defined metafields, such as the product category fields, need the product to already have a category in Shopify. If it has none, the push shows an error.
Product push mappings are usually built with help from Luminous support. See the related articles below for the product push basics.
