Overview

Luminous lets you set a Default Assembly Bin on each SKU. When you complete an Assembly Order or a Disassembly Order, Luminous uses this bin — instead of the SKU's receiving bin — to decide where the produced or returned inventory lands.

Note: This feature must be enabled for your account. If you do not see the Default Assembly Bin field on your product pages, contact your Luminous administrator.

Setting the Default Assembly Bin on a SKU

  1. Go to Inventory → SKUs and open the SKU you want to configure.
  2. On the Details tab (Units and handling section), locate the Default Assembly Bin field (it appears near the existing Default Receiving Bin field).
  3. Select the bin location from the dropdown.
  4. Save the product.

Changes take effect immediately the next time you create or complete an assembly/disassembly order for that SKU.

Where the assembly bin is applied

Completing an Assembly Order (producing finished goods)

When you mark an Assembly Order as Completed, Luminous credits the newly produced quantity to a bin using this priority order:

PriorityBin used
1SKU's Default Assembly Bin (if configured)
2SKU's Default Receiving Bin (if configured)
3Warehouse's default receiving location
4First available bin in the warehouse

Completing a Disassembly Order (breaking a product into components)

Each component SKU returned to stock is credited independently using the same cascade above — based on that component's own Default Assembly Bin setting, not the parent SKU's. If two components have different assembly bins configured, each lands in its own bin.

Form pre-fill

When you open the Assembly Order or Disassembly Order creation forms, the Destination Location field is pre-selected using the same cascade. You can always override the pre-filled value before saving.

Relationship to the Default Receiving Bin

The Default Assembly Bin and Default Receiving Bin are independent fields. Setting an assembly bin does not change where inbound purchase-order receipts land — those continue to use the Default Receiving Bin. This lets you keep production output and received goods in separate locations without conflicting defaults.

Frequently asked questions

Do all output SKUs in a multi-product disassembly need the same assembly bin? No. Each output component uses its own configured assembly bin independently. You can set different bins on different components and each will receive stock in its own location.

What if the configured assembly bin is not in the warehouse I selected for the order? The form will fall back to the warehouse's default receiving location. You can override the pre-filled bin manually on the order form before completing.

Can I set the assembly bin via import? Not currently — the Default Assembly Bin field must be set manually on the SKU's product page.

Does this affect bulk Assembly Orders? Yes. The bulk assembly form also pre-fills the destination bin for each row using the same cascade (assembly bin → receiving bin → warehouse default).
