Overview
Allocations made in the Allocation Planner can be reversed before the order ships. The outcome depends on how far the allocation has progressed.
Availability: This requires the Purchase-to-Order feature to be enabled on your account.
Reversing an allocation
- Open the posted sales order.
- On the Items tab, turn on the Supply / Allocations column from the Columns menu (hidden by default), then find the line with an allocation you want to remove.
- Click the × (Unallocate) icon next to the allocation peg you want to reverse.
- A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen. Click Unallocate in it to proceed.
What happens depends on the allocation's state:
| State | Result |
|---|---|
| Not yet received / not yet shipped (pure reservation) | The peg is deleted. Availability returns to the pool (on-hand stock or the incoming PO's free-to-allocate quantity is restored). No fulfillment order was generated, so nothing else changes. |
| Received and a fulfillment order was generated, but not yet shipped | The fulfillment order is torn down (or this line is removed from it if the FO covers other lines). The stock returns to available. The peg is deleted. |
| Partially shipped | The unshipped remainder is dropped. The already-shipped portion cannot be reversed here — use a Return to process the shipped units. |
| Fully shipped | Reversal is not available. Use a Return to process the shipment. |
Cancelling a Preorder allocation
For Preorder reservations (allocations that reserve no specific stock):
- If no stock has arrived yet and no fulfillment order has been generated, cancelling the preorder removes the reservation entirely.
- If stock has partially arrived and a fulfillment order was generated for part of the quantity, cancelling drops only the unfulfilled remainder. The already-fulfilled portion and its fulfillment order remain intact.
- If the preorder is fully fulfilled, there is nothing to cancel.
Use the same Unallocate action on the line to cancel a preorder reservation.
Notes
- Reversing an allocation does not cancel or delete the purchase order itself — it only removes the link between the PO line and this sales order line. The PO continues as normal.
- If you need to re-source the line after reversing, open the Allocation Planner again and create a new allocation.
