Overview

When a Fulfillment Order can't be fulfilled from its current warehouse—because stock is unavailable, incorrectly routed, or needs to be redirected—you can use the Re-route Fulfillment Orders feature to reassign individual line items to a different Fulfillment Priority List (FPL). Luminous will then delete the affected Fulfillment Orders and automatically regenerate new ones targeting the updated warehouse group.

Note: This feature must be enabled on your account. If you do not see the options described below, contact your Luminous account team.

Where to find the Re-route action

There are two places to launch the re-route editor:

Option A — From the Fulfillment Orders grid (bulk)

  1. Navigate to the Fulfillment Orders list or open a Sales Order and go to its Fulfillment Orders panel.
  2. Check the box next to one or more Fulfillment Orders you want to re-route.
  3. Click the Actions button.
  4. Select Re-route Fulfillment Orders (N) from the menu.

If no items are loaded for the selected Fulfillment Orders, Luminous will prompt you to open the Sales Order directly and use Option B instead.

Option B — From the Sales Order form

  1. Open the Sales Order and click Edit.
  2. In the Fulfillment Priority List section of the order form, click the Re-route FOs button.
  3. This entry point always shows all line items on the order, so it is the most complete view.

Step 1 — Assign a new Fulfillment Priority List per item

The Re-route Fulfillment Orders dialog opens showing a grid of all line items in scope. Each row shows:

  • SO – the Sales Order number
  • SKU and Name
  • Qty
  • Current FPL – the Fulfillment Priority List the item is currently assigned to
  • Current FO – the Fulfillment Order the item belongs to
  • Ship-to – the destination state
  • Target FPL – the dropdown you use to choose the new routing destination

To change individual items: Use the Target FPL dropdown on each row to select a different Fulfillment Priority List.

To change many items at once: Use the Set all to… toolbar at the top:

  1. Choose the target FPL from the "Set all to…" dropdown.
  2. Click Visible rows to apply only to rows currently shown after filtering, or click All rows in scope to apply to every item in the dialog.

To narrow the list: Use the filter bar to search by SKU, or filter by Current FPL or Current FO.

To undo a change on a single row: Click the undo icon (↩) that appears next to a modified row.

To undo all changes: Click Reset changes.

Once your assignments look correct, click Review →.

The editor supports up to 500 line items at a time. If your selection exceeds this limit, narrow your selection in the grid and try again.

Step 2 — Review the preview

The Review step shows a read-only preview of what will happen when you apply:

  • How many existing Fulfillment Orders will be deleted
  • How the affected Sales Orders will split into new Fulfillment Orders, grouped by warehouse group and FPL
  • Any items flagged as unroutable (no stock available against the chosen FPL)
  • Any Fulfillment Orders skipped because they have an active picklist (see below)

If the preview looks wrong, click ← Back to edit to adjust your assignments. Your changes are preserved when you go back.

When you are satisfied, click Apply.

Step 3 — Apply and view results

Applying the re-route runs as a background job. Luminous will:

  1. Update the per-item Fulfillment Priority List assignments.
  2. Delete the old Fulfillment Orders that are affected.
  3. Auto-generate new Fulfillment Orders based on the new FPL assignments and current stock.

The Results panel shows a per-Sales-Order summary:

  • success – items updated, old FOs deleted, new FOs regenerated.
  • skipped – all affected FOs had active picklists and could not be re-routed.
  • failed – an error occurred; details are shown inline.

Click Done to close the dialog. The grid refreshes automatically.

Important limitations and edge cases

Active picklists block re-routing

If a Fulfillment Order has an active picklist attached to it, Luminous cannot re-route its items. The preview will call these out as "Skipped (picklist): FO #…". Release the picklist first, then retry the re-route.

Inventory shift between Preview and Apply

If available inventory changes between the time you previewed and the time you click Apply, Luminous detects the conflict and shows an Inventory shifted notice with a refreshed preview. Review the updated split, then click Re-apply with new snapshot to proceed with the latest inventory data, or Cancel to abort.

No new Fulfillment Order generated

If Apply completes but no new Fulfillment Orders appear, the most common reasons are:

  • The chosen FPL had no stock available for the items.
  • Every item was already assigned to the target FPL (no actual change). Check the per-Sales-Order result message for the specific explanation.
