Overview

Luminous provides two complementary paths for working with SKU and product data in bulk:

  • Export — download a spreadsheet of your current catalog from the SKUs page for reporting, auditing, or as a starting point for edits.
  • Import — upload a spreadsheet through Tools → Imports to create new SKUs, update existing ones, or configure product attributes across your catalog.

Exporting SKU and Product Data

Navigate to Inventory → SKUs. Apply any filters you want in the filter panel (by product name, SKU, category, tags, warehouse, status, and more) — the export will include only the rows that match your active filters.

Once your filters are set, click the Export button in the top-right corner of the grid and choose the format that fits your needs:

Export optionWhat it contains
Export Master SKUs to ExcelCore SKU fields (SKU, name, category, status)
Export Full Master SKUs to ExcelMaster SKUs with variants grouped under each parent
Export Master SKU Details to ExcelAdditional detail fields (UPC, prices, weights, dimensions)
Export Variant SKUs to ExcelOne row per variant SKU
Export Variant SKU Details to ExcelVariant SKUs with extended detail fields
Export Alternate SKUs to Excel / CSVAll alternate SKU codes mapped to master SKUs
Export SKU with Custom Fields to Excel / CSVIncludes your account's custom field columns
Export to PDFPrintable product list
Export Customized FormatTemplate-defined format

Tip — selecting specific rows: If you tick the checkboxes on individual rows before clicking Export, the file will contain only those hand-picked SKUs, ignoring the active filter. Leave all checkboxes unticked to export everything that matches your filters.

For large catalogs, Luminous may queue the export as a background job. A notification will appear at the bottom of the screen; click Go to Downloads (or go to Tools → Downloads in the sidebar) to retrieve the file once it is ready.

Importing and Updating SKU / Product Data

All bulk import tools live under Tools → Imports. The page is organized by category, and you can use the search bar at the top to quickly find the importer you need.

Product Catalog imports

Product Import

Use this to create new master SKUs or update existing ones in bulk.

  1. Go to Tools → Imports and click Product Import under the Product Catalog section.
  2. Choose your update type:
    • Add New Master SKUs — the file must not reference any SKU that already exists.
    • Update Existing Master SKUs — only include columns you want to change; the SKU column is required.
  3. Download the template if you need it, fill in your data, then upload the .xlsx file.
  4. Review the Preview tab to validate rows and fix any errors flagged in red before finalizing.
  5. Click Import to submit. A progress indicator tracks the job; you will be redirected to the SKUs page on success.

Required fields (new SKUs only): MASTER_SKU, PRODUCT_NAME, PRODUCT_CATEGORY.

Optional fields include: Product_Sub_Category, Status (active/discontinued), Internal_Use, Product_Description, Default_Selling_UOM, Default_Purchase_UOM, UOM_Class, TYPE (PRODUCT/KIT/NON-INVENTORY), Materials, and any Variant_Type_N / Variant_Data_N columns for variants.

Alternate SKUs

Bulk-add or replace the alternate (alias) SKU codes tied to your master SKUs.

  • Add alternate SKUs — appends new codes; duplicate entries will error.
  • Replace alternate SKUs — clears all existing alternate SKUs for each master SKU in the file, then imports the new ones.

Required columns: Master_SKU, Alternate_SKU.

SKU Channels

Link or update the sales-channel associations for your SKUs in bulk.

  • Choose Overwrite SKU channels to replace existing channel mappings.
  • Choose Append SKU channels to add to existing mappings without removing them.

Download the template from the page header before filling in your data.

Kits

Bulk-define kit SKUs by specifying which component SKUs make up each kit and in what quantities.

Bills of Materials

Import manufacturing BOMs that link finished-goods SKUs to their component SKUs.

Updating channel integration products across all integrations

If you manage products across multiple sales channels (e.g., Shopify, TrackStar), you can export all channel products into a single file, edit them, and re-import across all integrations at once — rather than repeating the process per channel.

See Export and Update Products Across All Channels in One Upload for the full walkthrough.

Tips

  • Import History — click the Import History button on the Tools → Imports page to review past imports, their statuses, and any row-level errors.
  • Template downloads — each import page has a Download Template button in the header. Always start from the latest template to ensure column order is correct.
  • Async imports — some importers run as background jobs (tagged Async on the imports page). A progress bar or job status indicator will appear while the job runs.
  • Filtering before export — applying filters on the SKUs grid before exporting keeps file sizes manageable and speeds up generation for large catalogs.
  • Custom fields — only the SKU with Custom Fields export types include your account's custom field columns.
