Filtering the Stocks grid by Category, Subcategory, or Supplier
The Category, Subcategory, and Preferred Supplier columns on the Stocks grid each have a multi-select dropdown filter. You can pick one value or several at once, and the grid updates to show only rows that match any of your selections.

Before you start: unhide the columns (optional)
The Category and Subcategory columns are hidden by default. The filter works whether or not the column is visible, but if you want to see the column values alongside your other data:
- Click the Columns icon in the top-right corner of the grid (the column panel icon).
- Toggle Category and/or Subcategory to visible.
The Preferred Supplier column is visible by default.
How to apply a Category filter
- Click the filter icon (▽) in the Category column header (or in the floating filter row beneath it).
- The dropdown lists every product category in your account, sorted alphabetically.
- Check one or more categories. The grid updates after a one-second pause.
- To clear, uncheck all options or click Reset Column Filters in the toolbar.
How to apply a Subcategory filter (with automatic narrowing)
The Subcategory dropdown cascades from your Category selection:
- No Category selected → all subcategories are listed.
- One or more Categories selected → the Subcategory dropdown automatically narrows to only the subcategories that belong to those categories. Any previously selected subcategories outside the chosen categories are cleared automatically.
Steps:
- Apply a Category filter first (optional, but recommended for large catalogs).
- Click the filter icon on the Subcategory column.
- Select one or more subcategories from the narrowed list.
How to apply a Preferred Supplier filter
- Click the filter icon on the Preferred Supplier column.
- The dropdown lists every supplier in your account plus a "No Supplier" option.
- Select named suppliers to show only stock associated with those vendors.
- Select "No Supplier" to isolate products that have no supplier assigned. This is useful for spotting catalog gaps.
- You can combine named suppliers and "No Supplier" in the same selection.
Combining filters
All three filters work together and stack with other Stocks grid filters (warehouse group, quantity thresholds, stock status, etc.). For example:
- Category = Apparel + Subcategory = T-Shirts + Preferred Supplier = Acme Co → shows only Acme T-Shirts.
- Preferred Supplier = No Supplier + Available Quantity > 0 → in-stock products with no vendor assigned.
Do these filters apply to exports?
Yes. When you export the Stocks grid to Excel, the export respects your active multi-select category, subcategory, and supplier filters — only the matching rows are included.
Saved filter presets
If you regularly view the same category or supplier slice, save the view:
- Set up your filters.
- Click Save Preset in the left sidebar.
- Name it (e.g. "Apparel – Acme Co").
The preset restores the exact filter combination the next time you select it.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Subcategory dropdown shows no options | Confirm a Category is selected that has subcategories assigned. If you recently added subcategories, refresh the page. |
| "No Supplier" returns no rows | Every product in your filtered view has a supplier assigned — this is expected. |
| A previously saved filter isn't working for Category/Subcategory/Supplier | Saved states from before this update used a different filter format. They are automatically cleared for these three columns — reapply and save a new preset. |
