Overview

Luminous gives you two ways to update a sales order's Ship By Date (and other header details): editing a single order through its form, or inline editing directly in the Sales Orders grid. To apply a new ship-by date to many orders in one action, you use the bulk update tool on the Fulfillment Orders grid.

Editing a single sales order

Option A — Open the order form

  1. Go to Operations > Sales Orders.
  2. Click the order number in the grid to open the order detail modal.
  3. In the header section of the form, find the Ship By Date field and select a new date.
  4. Save the order.

This is the most complete editing experience — you can update ship-by date alongside other header fields such as order date, channel, and company.

Option B — Inline cell editing in the grid

The Ship By Date column is available in the Sales Orders grid (Operations > Sales Order Grid) but is hidden by default.

  1. Use the column picker (the column-settings icon on the right of the grid header) to enable the Ship By Date column.
  2. Once visible, click any cell in that column to open an inline date picker.
  3. Choose the new date — the change is saved automatically when you confirm the selection.

This is the fastest way to update a single order's ship-by date without opening the full edit modal.

Bulk-updating ship-by date across multiple orders

Mass updates to ship-by date are performed from the Fulfillment Orders grid, which gives you a dedicated bulk-update action.

  1. Navigate to Operations > Fulfillment Orders.
  2. Use the checkboxes to select all the fulfillment orders you want to update.
  3. Open the Actions menu (the menu that appears when rows are selected).
  4. Click Update Ship By Date (N) — where N is the number of selected rows.
  5. In the dialog that opens, pick the new ship-by date.
  6. Confirm. Luminous applies the date to all selected fulfillment orders immediately and refreshes the grid.

Tip: If you need to update orders matching a specific filter (e.g., all orders for a particular customer or warehouse group), apply your filters first, then select the rows and use the bulk action.

What is the difference between the Sales Order ship-by date and the Fulfillment Order ship-by date?

A Sales Order is the original customer record. A Fulfillment Order is the warehouse instruction derived from it. When you edit the ship-by date on a fulfillment order, you are updating the date that is communicated to the warehouse and used for carrier-label generation. Editing the sales order's ship-by date updates the source record. For day-to-day operational changes (e.g., pushing out a ship window), updating the fulfillment order is typically what you need.
