Editing unit cost inline on a PO line item

Who can do this?

Two separate permissions control cost columns:

PermissionWhat it unlocks
Cost-viewing (skuUnitCost.read)Makes the Unit Cost and Line Total columns visible in the grid
Cost-editing (skuUnitCost.update)Makes the Unit Cost cell editable — requires cost-viewing permission too

If you can see the Unit Cost column but the cell is not clickable, your account has viewing rights but not editing rights. Contact your account administrator to request the update permission.

Where inline editing is available

Unit Cost can be edited in-grid in two places:

  • Purchase Orders › Line Items tab (the cross-PO view showing all line items)
  • Inside an individual PO, on the Order Items embedded grid (only when the new line-items grid is enabled for your account; otherwise use the Line Items tab)

How to edit

  1. Go to Inventory → Purchase Orders in the left navigation.
  2. Open either the Line Items tab (cross-PO) or a specific purchase order and its Order Items section.
  3. Locate the row whose unit cost you want to update.
  4. Double-Click the Unit Cost cell to turn it into an editable field.
  5. Type the corrected value and press Enter (or click outside the cell) to save.
    • The grid row refreshes with the updated Unit Cost and recalculated Line Total.
    • If the save fails (for example, due to a network error), the cell reverts to its previous value.

Notes

  • Line Total is read-only. It is calculated automatically as Unit Cost × Ordered quantity and cannot be edited directly.
  • The server re-checks your permission when the save is submitted. Removing the permission mid-session will cause the save to be rejected even if the cell appeared editable.
  • Currency: The Unit Cost is stored and displayed in the currency of the parent purchase order. On the cross-PO grid, each row shows its own PO's currency symbol; you are editing and saving in that PO's currency.
  • Inline editing is not available for cost figures in the CSV export — cost values in exports are read-only snapshots of the saved data.
