Editing ordered quantity and unit cost in the Line Items view
You can correct a line's ordered quantity and unit cost directly in the cross-PO Line Items grid without navigating into the parent purchase order.
Permissions required
| Field | Permission needed |
|---|---|
| Ordered (quantity) | Standard purchase order access |
| Unit Cost | The skuUnitCost.update permission — viewing a cost and changing one are separate rights. Without it the cell is read-only even if you can see the value. |
How to edit
- Go to Inventory → Purchase Orders and open the Line Items tab.
- Locate the line you want to update.
- Double-click the Ordered or Unit Cost cell.
- A number editor appears in the cell.
- Type the new value and press Enter (or click away) to save.
- The cell saves immediately. A confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen.
- If the save fails, the cell reverts to the previous value and an error message explains why.
Validation
- Ordered quantity must be greater than zero. Entering zero or a negative number is rejected before it reaches the server.
- Unit Cost must be zero or greater. Negative values are rejected. A cost of zero is valid (free line).
What updates when you save
Because ordered quantity feeds derived figures, the server returns the full updated row after a quantity save. The following columns refresh in place without a page reload:
- Ordered
- Remaining to ship
- Remaining to receive
- Line Total (if cost columns are visible)
- Line Status
Saving a unit cost update refreshes the Unit Cost and Line Total cells.
Limitation
In-cell editing is not available on the single-PO detail view — use the PO's own edit form there. The cross-PO Line Items tab is the only surface that offers this shortcut.
