You can delete units of measure and unit classes that nothing refers to. The Delete option is rolling out gradually, so if you don't see it in the row menu, contact support.
Delete a unit of measure
- Go to Inventory > Inventory Admin > Units of Measure.
- Open the Units of Measure tab.
- Open the row menu for the unit and choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Delete a unit class
- Open the Unit Classes tab on the same screen.
- Open the row menu for the class and choose Delete, then confirm.
When Luminous refuses to delete
- Base units: a unit set as the base unit of its class can't be deleted. The message names the unit and its class.
- Units in use: a unit that products, kits, BOMs, orders, quotes, bills, shipments, receiving, adjustments, transfers or conversion rules refer to can't be deleted. This includes past and deleted records. You'll see 'Used or referred unit of measure cannot be deleted.'
- Base class: the unit class marked true in the Base Class column can’t be deleted.
- Classes in use: a class can't be deleted while any unit of measure belongs to it, or any product or kit uses it. You'll see 'Used or referred unit class cannot be deleted.'
Removing a whole class, such as Weight
Work in this order:
- Make sure no products or kits use the class.
- Delete its non-base units.
- Delete the class. Its base unit is the one that blocks this step, so ask support for help with it.
Deletion is permanent. There is no deactivate or hide option.
