What is a Grid Template?
A Grid Template is a saved percentage breakdown you define once and reuse on any purchase order. It maps one or two variant dimensions (for example Size, or Size × Color) to percentage weights that sum to 100 %. When you use a template on a PO, Luminous multiplies those weights against your entered total to calculate how many units to order for each variant.
Feature availability: Grid Templates must be enabled for your account. If you do not see the Variant Distribution Presets menu item under Inventory → Inventory Admin, contact your Luminous administrator.
Creating a template
-
Go to Inventory → Inventory Admin → Variant Distribution Presets.
-
Click New preset.
-
Fill in the form:
Field Notes Name Required. Shown in the assignment dropdown and the PO dialog. Description Optional free-text memo. Axes Single axis (one row of cells) — one dimension (e.g. Size). Two axes (rows × columns) — two dimensions (e.g. Size × Color). Column axis Must match exactly (case-insensitive) the variant type name on the SKUs you plan to use this template with (e.g. Size).Row axis Dual-axis only. Same rule — e.g. Color.Active Inactive templates are hidden from the PO dialog and the SKU assignment picker. Use as the tenant default At most one template per account can be the default. It is auto-selected in the PO dialog when no template is pinned to a master SKU. -
Under each axis, add your values and enter a percentage for each. Use the Even split action if you want Luminous to divide 100 % equally (it uses integer rounding, so the total is exact).
-
A live preview grid appears as you type. The Save button is blocked until each axis sums to exactly 100 %.
-
Click Save. You will see a confirmation snackbar.
Editing and deleting templates
- Click a preset in the list to open its detail panel, then click Edit.
- To delete a template, click the preset in the list and use Delete in its detail panel. The confirmation shows how many master SKUs currently have this template assigned.
- Deleting a template does not retroactively change any purchase order that was already created with it.
Tips
- Axis names are matched case-insensitively and with whitespace trimmed, so
Size, size, andSIZEall resolve to the same axis. Punctuation and accents are not folded, soColourandColorare treated as different axes. - A template is only offered to a master SKU when every axis on the template is present on that SKU's variant configuration. A Size × Color template will not appear for a SKU that only has a Size axis.
- You can have multiple active templates and let buyers pick one per order, or designate one as the account default.
