What it does

Purchase Overage adds a percentage on top of the quantity Luminous calculates you need to buy for a work order's components. The result is rounded up to a whole unit. Use it to cover production loss and spoilage without padding each line by hand.

Set it up

  1. Go to Settings > Purchase Orders.
  2. In the Purchase Overage section, enter an Overage %. It must be above 0 and at most 100.
  3. Choose one or more Product categories. The percentage applies only to components in these categories.
  4. Save.

If no percentage and categories are saved, nothing changes.

Where it applies

  • Generate Purchase Orders from a work order or production run.
  • The same suggested quantities when read through the API.

In the Generate Purchase Orders preview, lines that include overage show a +X% badge. Hover over it for the detail. The overage is added to the requirement first, and stock on hand is subtracted after that.

Example: at 10%, a requirement of 100 becomes 110, and a requirement of 95 becomes 105 (104.5 rounded up).

What it does not change

  • Quantities you type or edit in the preview.
  • POs created by hand or through the API.
  • Reorder suggestions.
  • There is no per-vendor or per-product override. The percentage is set per category rule.

If a PO quantity is still higher than you expect, MOQ and purchase-unit conversion can also raise it. See Generate purchase orders for remaining shortages.
