Short answer
Luminous doesn't have separate tax types, such as a second or third tax line, on sales orders and invoices. Each order has one Tax amount. You can use that amount for a combined tax, but you can't itemize several taxes. Import duties and similar charges on purchases are handled as additional costs on purchase orders, not as taxes.
Sales orders and invoices
Option 1: Use a customer tax rate (automatic)
- To set a customer’s rate, go to CRM → Companies → [company] → Edit.
- Uncheck TAX EXEMPT to show Tax Rate Percentage (%), then enter the combined rate and save.
If the customer's company record has a tax rate and isn't marked tax exempt, Luminous calculates the Tax amount for you. It applies the rate to the order's taxable line items only.
- If your total rate is a combined rate (for example, state tax plus an additional tax), set that combined percentage as the customer's tax rate.
- Lines marked non-taxable are left out of the tax base. See How do I mark a SKU as taxable or non-taxable?
Option 2: Enter the tax amount manually
If the customer has no tax rate, or is tax exempt, the Tax amount isn't calculated for you. You can type the amount into the Tax field in the order summary at the bottom of the sales order form. Use this for an additional tax or duty that you've worked out yourself. The amount is added to the order total along with shipping and minus any order discount.
The Tax field is in the totals bar at the bottom of the sales order form, next to Shipping and Discount.
Limits
- To see or change whether a line is taxable, open Columns on the line items and turn on Taxable.
- There is one tax amount per order. The order doesn't break out individual tax types.
- Taxes are not set per line item. A line is only marked taxable or non-taxable.
Duties and tariffs on purchase orders
For import duties, tariffs, freight and handling on purchases, add them as additional costs on the purchase order. They become part of the landed cost of the items you receive. See:
