Overview

Carrier, SCAC (Standard Carrier Alpha Code), and BOL (Bill of Lading) Number are available on the Shipment object tied to a sales order or fulfillment order — not as fields on the Invoice itself. Carrier Code and BOL Number are visible directly in the Luminous UI; SCAC is not currently surfaced as its own UI field, but is included in outbound EDI 810 (invoice) documents when available.

Where to find these fields

  1. Open a Sales Order (Operations > Sales Orders or Sales Order Grid) that has at least one shipment.
  2. Open the Shipments tab on the order detail view.
  3. The Shipments grid includes a Carrier Code column and a BOL Number column — use the Columns picker (top-right of the grid) to add either if it's hidden.
  4. There is no separate SCAC column in this grid. SCAC values, when available, are only included in outbound EDI 810 documents — check your EDI Documents Report to see SCAC on a sent 810.

Field definitions

  • Carrier Code — code identifying the carrier (e.g., ups, fedex). Visible directly on the Shipments grid.
  • BOL Number — Bill of Lading Number for logistics tracking (e.g., BOL-123456789). Visible directly on the Shipments grid; populated only when provided by the carrier or 3PL.
  • SCAC — Standard Carrier Alpha Code for the shipment's carrier. Included on outbound EDI 856/810 documents when available; not currently exposed as its own column in the Shipments grid UI.

Important scope note These fields live on the Shipment object, not the Invoice object. The REST Invoice API does not expose carrier/SCAC/BOL directly — pull this data from the Shipment endpoints, or from the EDI 810 payload for SCAC specifically.

FAQs

Q: I don't see a SCAC value anywhere on the invoice or the shipment grid. Is that a bug? A: Not necessarily — SCAC only appears on outbound EDI 810 documents when your integration provides it, not as a standalone UI field today. If you need to see SCAC directly in the UI, let your Luminous contact know this is a common request.

Q: Where do Carrier Code and BOL Number actually come from? A: They're populated on the Shipment record — either pulled in automatically from your carrier/3PL integration, or entered manually depending on how the shipment was created.
