Overview
When you click Export to CSV or Export to PDF on the Sales Report page (Insights → Sales Report), Luminous does not stream the file directly to your browser. Instead, it queues the export as a background job and emails the finished file to you as an attachment. A confirmation message appears on screen while the file is being prepared.
This article explains why the process works this way and what to expect.
Why is the file emailed instead of downloaded?
The Sales Report can span a very large number of orders — potentially thousands of records across a wide date range. Generating the full export file (fetching all matching data, building a formatted CSV or PDF) can take significantly longer than a normal web request allows.
To avoid timeouts and keep the app responsive, Luminous handles the export as a background queue job:
- You click Export to CSV or Export to PDF.
- Luminous immediately acknowledges your request and queues the export job — you see the message "Exported file will be sent to your email. Please wait…"
- The background job fetches all matching records (ignoring page size limits) and builds the complete file.
- Once the file is ready, it is sent as an email attachment to the email address associated with your Luminous account.
- A success notification confirms the export was queued.
Because the heavy work happens in the background, the app stays fast and you are free to keep working while the file is prepared.
What will the email look like?
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Subject line | Sales Report Export File |
| Sent to | The email address on your Luminous account |
| Attachment (CSV) | sales-report.csv |
| Attachment (PDF) | sales-report.pdf |
The CSV includes these columns: PO Source, Order #, Date, SKU, Product Name, Quantity, Price, Line Total, and Order Total.
How long does it take?
Delivery time depends on how many records match your current filters. Most exports arrive within a few minutes. If you applied a very broad date range (e.g., All Time on a large catalog), allow a little extra time.
Tips
- Narrow your filters first. Applying a tighter date range, specific SKUs, or a saved filter template before exporting reduces the dataset and speeds up delivery.
- Check your spam folder if the email doesn't arrive after several minutes.
- The export reflects your active filters. Whatever date range, SKU filters, or saved filter template is set at the time you click Export is what the email file will contain — page size does not affect the export (all matching records are included).
