What changed
When you view the Stock Snapshot report with cost-layer valuation enabled (the Use cost-layer valuation checkbox in the filter bar), the report shows a period-totals summary strip with aggregate figures across the full filtered result set. These columns are affected:
- Starting Inventory Value
- Ending Inventory Value
- On-Hand Value (remaining quantity cost)
- Sold Value
- Adjustment Value
Previously, these totals were either null (not computed) or used the product's simple weighted average cost rather than the same point-in-time cost-layer WAC that each individual product row was already using. This caused the totals strip to disagree with the sum of the rows displayed below it.
What is correct now
All five dollar columns in the summary strip now use the same cost-layer weighted average cost (WAC) logic as the per-row data:
| Column | Pricing basis |
|---|---|
| Starting Inventory Value | WAC as of the report's start date |
| Ending Inventory Value | WAC as of the report's end date |
| On-Hand Value | WAC as of the start date (same as starting value) |
| Sold Value | WAC as of the start date (fallback: end-date WAC, then average) |
| Adjustment Value | WAC as of the start date (same fallback chain) |
For SKUs that have no usable cost-layer WAC, the system falls back to computed_weighted (the weighted average cost), matching the per-row fallback behavior.
What action do you need to take?
None — the fix is automatic. If your totals strip now shows different numbers than before, the new figures are the accurate ones. The prior figures were either missing or based on the wrong cost basis.
When does this apply?
This only affects the period-totals summary strip under the cost-layer valuation basis. Reports using the weighted-average basis, and per-row values on any basis, are unaffected by this change.
