Adaptive column layout in the Sales Order modal

The Sales Order line-item table automatically adjusts the columns it shows based on how much horizontal space the modal has. This prevents the table from becoming a scrolling mess on smaller screens or split-screen setups — the most important columns always stay visible.

Which columns always stay visible?

Six core columns are always shown, no matter how narrow the modal is:

  • SKU
  • Product Name
  • Qty
  • Unit Price
  • Line Total
  • Stock

Which columns can be hidden at narrow widths?

Other columns shed progressively as space tightens:

Columns hidden first (at moderately narrow widths)Columns hidden last (only at very narrow widths)
Product Description, Category, Sub-Category, Preferred Supplier, Original Qty, List Price, % Off List, Discount %Unit (UOM), Status, Est. Ship Date, Line Item Description, Allow Auto Fulfill

Note: Columns you have manually hidden via the Columns menu are not shown regardless of width.

How do I access a column that has been hidden by width?

Hidden columns are still accessible in two ways:

  1. Per-row detail panel — click the expand arrow (▶) at the left of any line-item row to open its detail panel. Every column currently hidden by width appears here as an editable field. Changes you make in the panel write to the same order line — there is no separate save step.
  2. Columns menu badge — the Columns button in the line-items toolbar shows a badge with the count of your enabled columns currently hidden by width, so you always know if any are tucked away.

How do I bring the columns back?

Widen the Sales Order modal (drag its edge, maximise your browser window, or exit split-screen mode). The table detects the extra space and restores columns automatically — starting with the highest-priority ones first.

Does hiding columns by width change my saved column preferences?

No. The responsive adjustment is display-only. Your saved column visibility choices (stored per browser) are never modified by the automatic width adjustment. If you toggle a column on or off using the Columns menu, that preference is saved as usual.
