Cost layer change-history transaction types
The cost layer changes log (visible on the Cost Layers detail view) records every event that affected a cost layer's quantity or value. Three transaction types often come up:
| Label | What caused it |
|---|---|
| Manual Edit | A Luminous user directly edited a cost layer value through the UI. |
| System Repair | The automated overnight cost-layer repair job detected and corrected a discrepancy. No human initiated this; it is the system keeping cost layers consistent. |
| Operator Cost Change | A member of the Luminous operations team ran a targeted cost-correction command (for example, to fix a specific tenant's cost data). A person initiated this, but it was not done through the standard UI. |
Why the distinction matters
Before this change, automated repairs and operator-run corrections both appeared as Manual Edit, making it impossible to tell from the audit log whether a change was made by a person or by the system. The three labels are now distinct, so you can:
- Identify entries the nightly job wrote without any human involvement (System Repair).
- Distinguish one-off operator interventions from everyday user edits (Operator Cost Change vs. Manual Edit).
- Use the audit log confidently for month-end reconciliation without needing to cross-reference support tickets to explain unexpected entries.
Where to find the change history
- Go to Inventory → Inventory Admin → Cost Layers.
- Click into any cost layer to open its detail view.
- The History section (Quantity Changes and All History tabs) lists every recorded event with its transaction type, date, quantity change, and cost change.
If you see a System Repair entry and want to understand why it occurred, contact Luminous Support — they can trace the repair back to the specific discrepancy that triggered it.
