Overview
Dynamic Order Routing allows Luminous to automatically route orders to the closest warehouse based on the shipping location. Instead of using a static warehouse order, the system dynamically updates the priority list based on proximity.
This routing method uses ZIP codes to determine the closest warehouse. For this feature to work, both sales orders and warehouses must have ZIP codes configured.
Currently, this feature supports US warehouses only.
Setup: Enable Closest Warehouse Routing
1. Open the Warehouse Priority List
- Log in to the Luminous dashboard.
- Navigate to Operations → Operations Admin → Fulfillment Priority Lists and open the priority list used for order fulfillment (row menu → Update Priority List).
- Open the priority list settings.
By default, priority lists fulfill orders in a fixed order.
2. Enable Location-Based Routing
- In the priority list settings, check Location Aware (Proximity-Based Routing) to route orders by closest location (if the form says Proximity-Based Routing is not enabled for your account, contact support to enable it).
- Refresh the page if needed.
Once enabled, a configuration window will appear to help verify warehouse location data.
3. Review Warehouse Location Status
The configuration window displays all warehouses and their location status.
Warehouses may show:
- Valid – The warehouse already has GPS coordinates.
- Missing location data – The warehouse is missing a ZIP code.
Warehouses with valid location data are ready for dynamic routing.
4. Add a ZIP Code to Invalid Warehouses
If a warehouse does not appear as valid:
- Open the warehouse settings.
- Add a ZIP code to the warehouse address.
- Save the changes.
Adding a ZIP code allows Luminous to generate the warehouse’s GPS coordinates.
5. Refresh the Setup Window
Return to the routing setup window and refresh the page.
Once the ZIP code is added, the warehouse should appear as valid.
6. Save the Priority List
After confirming all warehouses have valid location data:
- Save the priority list configuration. Orders will now be routed to the closest warehouse based on the shipping ZIP code. If you would like to exclude a warehouse from a location based routing, exclude that warehouse from your priority list as needed.
Requirements
To use Dynamic Order Routing:
- Sales orders must include a shipping ZIP code
- Warehouses must have a ZIP code configured
- Routing currently supports US locations only
