Overview

The Header Trade Discount feature allows a blanket discount to be configured at the company level in the CRM. Once enabled, the discount is automatically applied to the header of every sales order created for that company — eliminating the need to manually add a discount each time an order is created.

The discount can be set as a percentage off the order total (e.g., 8% off) or as a fixed dollar amount (e.g., $25 off), and an effective start date can be specified so the discount only applies to orders created from that date forward. This is ideal for companies that have negotiated standing trade agreements or recurring wholesale discounts.

How It Works (Step-by-Step)

  1. Navigate to Sales > CRM > Companies.
  2. Search for and open the company record you want to configure.
  3. In the left sidebar of the company record, click Pricing Structure.
  4. In the top tab bar, click Header Trade Discount.
  5. Check the box labeled Enable header trade discount to activate the feature.
  6. Under Discount type, use the dropdown to select either:
    • Percent — applies a percentage-based reduction (e.g., enter 8 for 8% off)
    • Fixed amount — applies a flat dollar amount reduction
  7. In the Discount value field, enter the discount amount (e.g., 8 for 8% or a fixed dollar figure).
  8. In the Effective from field, enter the date the discount should begin applying to orders. Orders created before this date will not be affected.
  9. Click Save to apply the configuration.

To remove a discount, click Clear and then Save.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Set the effective date intentionally. If left blank or set to a past date, the discount may apply immediately to orders going forward. Use a specific future date if you want a phased rollout.
  • Use Percent for typical trade agreements. Most wholesale discount arrangements are percentage-based. Fixed amounts are better suited for promotional credits or one-time concessions.
  • This discount is separate from SKU-level pricing. Header trade discounts apply at the order level, not the line-item level. If a company also has SKU price overrides or a pricing schedule/level assigned, both may apply — verify expected pricing behavior on a test order.
  • Inactive companies still retain discount settings. The discount configuration is stored on the company record regardless of its active/inactive status. Verify the setting when reactivating a company.
  • One discount per company. Only one header trade discount can be active per company at a time. To change the discount, update the value and save, or click Clear to remove it.

FAQs and Troubleshooting

Q: The discount isn't appearing on a sales order I just created. What's wrong?
Check that the Enable header trade discount checkbox is checked and that the Effective from date is on or before today's date. If the effective date is set in the future, the discount will not apply until that date is reached.

Q: Can I apply this discount to past orders?
No. The header trade discount applies to new sales orders created after the configuration is saved. It does not retroactively affect existing or historical orders.

Q: Can I set different discounts for different order or invoice types?
Not via this feature. The header trade discount applies globally to all sales orders for the company. For type-specific pricing logic, use the pricing schedule/levels or SKU price overrides available in the Pricing Structure tab.

Q: What's the difference between a header trade discount and a pricing schedule/level?
A pricing schedule defines volume- or tier-based discounts across products. A header trade discount is a flat, company-level discount applied to the entire order total. Both can coexist — confirm the combined effect on pricing before going live.

Q: What does "Fixed" discount type mean?
A fixed discount deducts a set dollar amount from the sales order total (e.g., $25 off every order), regardless of order size.
