Overview
When you use the Allocation Planner to peg a sales order line to an inbound purchase order, Luminous holds that line out of normal fulfillment routing. When the linked purchase order is received, Luminous automatically releases the pegged quantity and generates the fulfillment order — routed to the fulfillment channel you chose when you created the allocation. No manual step is required.
Availability: This behavior requires the Purchase-to-Order feature to be enabled on your account.
What happens step by step
- You allocate the line in the Allocation Planner, choosing an inbound PO (or creating a new one) as the supply source and selecting a destination fulfillment channel.
- The peg is recorded. At this point, no fulfillment order exists — the stock has not landed yet.
- The purchase order is received in the receiving workflow (partially or fully).
- Luminous detects that the received PO has pegged sales order lines and automatically:
- Calculates how much of each pegged line's quantity is covered by this receipt (partial receipts release only the received increment).
- Creates a fulfillment order for the released quantity, forced onto the channel you pinned at allocation time — the fulfillment channel you chose is honored regardless of stock-based routing rules.
- Lines from the same order going to the same channel are consolidated into a single fulfillment order.
- If the PO is received in multiple partial shipments, each receipt releases and fulfills only its increment. Subsequent receipts release the remainder.
Ship Complete orders
If the order has Ship Complete enabled, pegged lines are not released individually when a receipt comes in. Instead, Luminous checks whether the entire order is now coverable (all pegged lines have received sufficient stock). If yes, every held line is released and fulfilled together as a single coordinated action. If the order is still short on one or more lines, it continues to wait.
Preorder allocations
A Preorder allocation does not peg to a specific purchase order. Instead, it marks the line for auto-fulfillment as soon as any matching stock becomes available at the pinned warehouse — whether from a new receipt, a transfer, or an adjustment. The fulfillment order is generated and pinned to the channel you chose when you created the preorder reservation.
Checking the status of an allocation
- Open the sales order and, on the Items tab, turn on the Supply / Allocations column from the Columns menu (it is hidden by default). Each pegged line shows its allocations and the quantity already released to fulfillment.
- On the purchase order's line items view, the Allocated, Available to allocate, and Allocated to columns show how much of each PO line is spoken for and which sales orders it is linked to.
