How cross-tab filter carry works
When you switch between the Orders, Line Items, and Backorders tabs on the Sales Order Grid page (Operations → Sales Order Grid — not to be confused with the plain Sales Order list, which doesn't have these tabs), Luminous automatically applies compatible filters from the tab you just left onto the tab you land on. This saves you from re-entering the same order number or SKU each time you change views.
What carries over
Only filters whose value means the same thing on both tabs are transferred:
| Filter | Orders → Line Items | Orders → Backorders | Line Items → Backorders |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order # | ✅ ("contains" operator only) | ❌ | ❌ |
| SKU | ✅ ("contains" operator only) | ❌ | ❌ |
| Product name | ✅ ("contains" operator only) | ❌ | ❌ |
| Customer email | ❌ (Line Items has no email column) | ✅ ("contains" only) | ✅ |
| Order date | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ |
Note: The table is symmetric — the same rules apply in the reverse direction (e.g. Line Items → Orders obeys the same operator and column constraints as Orders → Line Items).
What doesn't carry over, and why
- Channel, Status, Tags, Warehouse — these are stored as IDs on the Orders tab but as text labels on the other tabs, so copying the value across would filter incorrectly. They are always left behind.
- Order date to or from the Orders tab — the Orders tab applies a timezone adjustment to date filters that the other tabs don't use. Carrying a date across that boundary would silently show a different day range, so order-date filters are only transferred between Line Items and Backorders.
- "Contains" vs "Equals" mismatches — the Backorders tab's text columns only support an exact-match query, while the Orders tab uses partial matching. A "contains" filter from Orders would behave differently on Backorders, so these are not transferred.
- Combined (AND / OR) text filters — multi-condition text filters are too complex to safely translate and are always left behind.
The "N filters didn't carry over" notice
Whenever one or more filters cannot be transferred, a brief info notice appears at the bottom of the screen counting how many were left behind. This is expected — it does not indicate an error. Review your active filters on the new tab to confirm what's applied.
Important: this only works for in-app tab switches
The carry-over uses in-memory state. It activates only when you click between tabs during the same session. If you open a tab directly from a bookmark, a fresh page load, or navigate away from the Sales Orders screen entirely, no filters are pre-applied.
The filter is additive, not replacing
Carried filters are merged with any filters already saved for the destination tab's view preset. If a column already has an active filter on the destination tab, the carried value is layered on top.
