Symptom

You ran a bulk import (e.g., products, inventory quantities, purchase orders, sales orders) and either:

  • A completion dialog appeared saying one or more rows failed to import, or
  • You later noticed that the success count in the Import History table does not match the number of rows in your file.

You need to find out which rows failed, why they failed, and how to fix and re-import them.

Why it happens

Luminous processes each row of your import file independently. When a row fails validation or cannot be saved (for example, a required field is blank, a SKU does not exist, or a value is in the wrong format), that row is recorded as an error and skipped — while all other rows continue to process. The import job completes normally even when some rows fail. If 100 or more rows fail in a single import the job is automatically aborted to prevent runaway processing.

How to resolve

Step 1 — Find the import in Import History

  1. Go to Tools → Imports, then click Import History in the top-right corner (this takes you to the Historical Imports screen).
  2. The table lists every import job your account has run, with columns for Error Count, Success Count, Total Rows, and Job Status. Find the import you want to investigate.

Tip: You can also enter an email address on any active import so Luminous notifies you when it finishes.

Step 2 — Read the error summary

The Error Count column shows how many rows failed. If the count is greater than zero, the row's action menu will show error-specific options.

Step 3 — Download the error details

  1. Click the ⋮ (three-dot) action menu on the import row.
  2. Choose View Error Data.
  3. Luminous downloads an Excel file containing only the rows that failed, with the error message describing what went wrong for each one.

Review the error messages to understand what needs to be corrected in your data (e.g., missing required columns, unrecognised SKU codes, invalid date formats).

Step 4 — Fix and re-import just the failed rows

You have two options:

Option A — Retry Errors (recommended for data-only fixes)

  1. In the same ⋮ action menu, choose Retry Errors.
  2. Confirm the prompt. Luminous automatically creates a new import job containing only the previously failed rows, using the same settings as the original. The new job appears in the Import History table so you can track its progress.
  3. Repeat Steps 2–4 until the Error Count reaches zero.

Option B — Correct your file and upload a fresh import

  1. Open the error data file you downloaded in Step 3.
  2. Fix the issues in each row.
  3. Return to Tools → Imports, choose the same import type, and upload the corrected file.

Step 5 — Resume a stuck or partially-completed import

If an import shows a Job Status of failed or processing but has stalled before finishing all rows:

  1. In the ⋮ action menu, choose Resume Import.
  2. Confirm the prompt. Luminous resumes processing from where the job left off.

When to contact support

Contact Luminous support if:

  • The same rows keep failing after you correct and retry them, and the error messages are unclear.
  • An import was aborted automatically (this happens when 100 or more errors accumulate in a single job).
  • The Job Status is stuck on processing and Resume Import does not clear it.
  • You need to reverse or undo rows that were successfully imported in error.
