Overview

Luminous ACH bill pay lets your team initiate bank-transfer payments to vendors directly from a bill record. Setup has two sides: your company connects a funding bank account, and each vendor completes a short payout onboarding. Both steps are guided from inside Luminous.

Availability: ACH bill pay is enabled per account. If you do not see the setup prompt, contact your Luminous account team to have it turned on.

Step 1 — Set up your company (one-time)

  1. Go to Bills in the left navigation.
  2. If ACH bill pay is enabled for your account, a banner reading "Pay vendors by ACH" appears at the top of the Bills list. Click Set up bill pay.
  3. The setup wizard opens:
    • Connect step — Click Connect Stripe. You are redirected to Stripe's hosted onboarding to verify your company's identity. When complete, Stripe returns you to the Bills page automatically.
    • Funding step — Enter the account holder name and click Add bank account. Stripe's bank-collection flow opens in-page. If your bank supports instant verification (Financial Connections), the account is ready immediately. If not, Stripe sends micro-deposits (1–2 business days) and you verify the amounts when they arrive.
  4. Once both steps show as complete, the wizard confirms you are ready to pay.

You only need to complete this once. The bank account is reused for all future ACH bill payments.

Step 2 — Onboard each vendor (per vendor)

Vendors must have a Stripe payout account before you can pay them by ACH.

  1. Open a bill for the vendor you want to pay.
  2. Click Record Payment (or the pay action on the bill).
  3. In the payment dialog, if the vendor is not yet onboarded, Luminous shows their status and an Invite vendor to get paid button.
  4. Click Invite vendor to get paid — Luminous emails the vendor a private onboarding link. If the vendor has no email on file, a copyable link is shown so you can send it yourself.
  5. The vendor follows the link to complete their Stripe Express account (bank details, identity). This takes a few minutes on their side.
  6. Once the vendor's account is approved and payouts are enabled, the Pay by ACH (Stripe) option becomes available on their bills.

Notes

  • ACH payments are USD only. Bills in other currencies will not show the ACH option.
  • Only one ACH payment can be in flight on a bill at a time. Submit a second payment only after the first settles or fails.
  • Your company's Stripe connection and the vendor's payout account are independent — re-inviting a vendor does not affect your company setup.
