Saving company defaults for Auto-create Package Structure
Auto-create Package Structure now supports company-level defaults so your team's preferred settings — box/case/pallet hierarchy, weight limits, grouping rules — are pre-filled every time the dialog opens.

Option 1 — Save defaults from a shipment (first-time prompt)
If your company has never saved defaults:
- Open any shipment in the Package Builder.
- Click Auto-create Package Structure (the sparkle button).
- The dialog opens with a notice: "No company defaults yet. After you create, you can save these settings for next time."
- Configure the settings as needed, then click Create Structure.
- A prompt appears: "Save as company defaults?"
- Save & Create — saves the settings to your company account and creates the structure.
- Just Create — creates the structure this time only, without saving.
Once saved, the dialog will pre-fill with those values on every future shipment for all users in your account.
Option 2 — Configure defaults in Settings (proactive setup)
Admins can set or update defaults at any time without opening a shipment:
- Go to Settings → Fulfillment.
- Scroll to the Package Builder Auto-create Defaults section.
- Configure any combination of the following:
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Use Boxes | Whether box-level packages are created by default |
| Use Cases | Whether case/carton packages are created using Units per Carton |
| Use Pallets | Whether cases/boxes are grouped onto pallets |
| Use SKU Pallet Standards | Uses SKU-level units-per-pallet data to size pallets (shown only when Use Pallets is on) |
| Max Box Weight (lbs) | Closes a package when adding another unit would exceed this weight |
| Max Units per Box | Maximum units per package (can be overridden per shipment by order heuristics) |
| Default Pallet Tare Weight (lbs) | Empty pallet weight added to each pallet's freight weight (shown only when Use Pallets is on) |
| Group Items By | SKU / Category / None |
| Keep SKUs Together | Prevents mixing different SKUs in the same package |
| Allow Mixed Categories | Allows items from different categories to share a package |
- Click Save Settings.
How the settings are applied
When the Auto-create Package Structure dialog opens, settings are resolved in this order (later wins):
- System defaults — sensible starting values (50 lb max weight, boxes on, cases off, group by SKU, keep SKUs together).
- Company defaults — whatever your team saved in Settings → Fulfillment or via the first-time prompt.
- Order heuristic — if the shipment's items have a carton pack size, that overrides the Max Units per Box value from saved defaults.
You can always adjust values in the dialog before clicking Create Structure — the saved defaults are a starting point, not a lock.
Updating existing defaults
To change your company's defaults after the initial save:
- Go to Settings → Fulfillment → Package Builder Auto-create Defaults and update the values there, then click Save Settings. Changes take effect the next time anyone opens the Auto-create dialog.
