Overview

By default, Luminous checks warehouse-group on-hand and pending quantities when deciding whether to auto-generate a fulfillment order. If your warehouse uses bin-slotted pick locations, on-hand stock may exist in bulk or receiving areas while pick bins are empty — causing fulfillment orders to generate before pickers can actually fulfill them.

The Require Pick-Bin Stock for FO Generation setting changes that check: when enabled, Luminous only counts stock that is already in configured pick locations.

Note: Warehouse groups that have no pick bins configured are unaffected — Luminous falls back to standard warehouse-group totals for those groups automatically, so turning on this gate does not break warehouses that haven't set up pick locations yet.

Enable the global setting

  1. Go to Operations → Operations Admin → Smart Fulfillment Settings.
  2. Under the stock controls section, check Require Pick-Bin Stock for FO Generation.
  3. Click Save.

Once saved, auto-generation for all channels set to "Default" will wait until pick-bin availability is greater than zero for each item.

What happens to other stock bypasses?

When this gate is active, the Always Create Fulfillment Orders Even When No Stock is Available and Always Create Fulfillment Orders for Future Ship Dates options are automatically suppressed — even if they are enabled. The pick-bin gate is a hard gate; it cannot be bypassed by those settings.

Override the setting per channel

Some channels (wholesale, EDI, bulk-pick) may legitimately pick from non-pick-bin locations. You can override the global setting on individual channels without changing it globally.

  1. Go to Manage → Channels and open the channel you want to configure.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. In the Auto Fulfillment section, find Require Pick-Bin Stock for FO Generation.
  4. Choose one of:
    • Default — follow the global Smart Fulfillment setting.
    • Enabled — always require pick-bin stock for this channel, regardless of the global setting.
    • Disabled — never require pick-bin stock for this channel (use warehouse-group totals instead).
  5. Save the channel.

Kits

Kit items use component-derived availability and are not subject to the pick-bin gate in the current release. Their FO generation follows the standard kit availability logic.
