Overview

Luminous requires a specific set of API permissions (called scopes) to be granted on your Shopify custom app. If Luminous was recently updated with new capabilities, or if your initial setup was missing a scope, you may need to update the permissions on your existing Shopify app and re-verify the connection.

Step 1: Check Which Scopes Are Missing in Luminous

  1. In Luminous, click your name in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings / Integrations.
  3. Find your Shopify integration and click the pencil (edit) icon.
  4. Click Test Credentials.

Luminous will connect to Shopify and validate that all required permissions are in place.

  • ✅ If all scopes are present, you will see: "Credentials are valid and all required scopes are available."
  • ⚠️ If any scopes are missing, you will see a message listing exactly which scopes are missing (e.g., write_metaobjects, read_metaobjects).

Make note of any missing scopes before continuing.

Step 2: Update Scopes in Your Shopify Custom App

  1. Log into your Shopify Admin.
  2. Go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps → Build apps in Dev Dashboard.
  3. Click on the custom app you created for Luminous.
  4. Go to the Configuration tab.
  5. Find the Admin API access scopes field.
  6. Add any missing scopes, or replace the entire list with the full set below to ensure nothing is left out.

Full Required Scope List (copy-paste ready)

Paste the following exactly as-is into Shopify's Admin API access scopes field:

read_assigned_fulfillment_orders,write_assigned_fulfillment_orders,write_draft_orders,read_draft_orders,read_fulfillments,write_fulfillments,write_inventory,read_inventory,write_locations,read_locations,read_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders,write_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders,write_order_edits,read_order_edits,read_orders,read_all_orders,write_orders,read_product_feeds,write_product_feeds,read_product_listings,write_product_listings,read_products,write_products,write_metaobjects,read_metaobjects
  1. Click Save.

Step 3: Release a New Version of the App

Shopify requires you to release a new version for scope changes to take effect.

  1. Click Release (top-right corner of the app page).
  2. Follow any on-screen prompts. Version numbers that appear can be ignored.
  3. Wait for the release to complete.

Step 4: Re-verify in Luminous

  1. Return to Integrations in Luminous.
  2. Open the edit form for your Shopify integration.
  3. Click Test Credentials again.

You should now see the confirmation message: "Credentials are valid and all required scopes are available."

Why Are New Scopes Sometimes Required?

As Luminous adds new Shopify features (for example, metaobject support for product options), additional scopes may be needed. Running Test Credentials periodically — or any time you notice a sync issue — is a quick way to confirm your integration is fully authorized.

Still Seeing Issues?
