Managing Payment Methods for Your Luminous Subscription

Who can do this: Account admins only.

Getting there

  1. Click your user name (Luminous Admin menu) in the top-right corner and choose Settings.
  2. Under the Account section, click Billing.
  3. Scroll to the Payment Methods section.

Each card or payment method on file shows:

  • Card brand and last four digits (or bank account ending)
  • Expiration date (for cards)
  • A health badge indicating its current status (see below)
  • Whether it is marked as the default method

Payment method health badges

BadgeMeaning
Active (green)The method is in good standing and has been charged successfully
Expiring soon (yellow)The card expires within 60 days — add a replacement before it expires
Expired (red)The card is past its expiry date and cannot be charged
Payment failed (red)The last charge on this card was declined by the issuing bank
Not yet verified (blue)The card was just added and has not completed a successful payment yet

Adding a new payment method

  1. Click Add card.
  2. A secure card-entry form appears inside Luminous (powered by Hyperline). Card data is entered directly into the provider's hosted form and never touches Luminous servers.
  3. Complete the form and close the dialog.
  4. The payment method list refreshes automatically. The new card will show a Not yet verified badge until the next billing cycle processes a charge against it.

Removing a payment method

Click the three-dot menu next to a card and select Remove. Confirm the dialog.

The replace-then-remove guardrail prevents you from removing a card unless at least one other payment method on the account has already completed a successful charge. This means:

  • If the card you want to remove is the only method on the account, you must add another card first.
  • If you have added a new card but it shows Not yet verified, you must wait until Luminous has successfully billed that card before you can remove the old one. A pending card does not count as a proven replacement.
  • Once a replacement card reaches Active status (i.e., a charge has gone through), the old card becomes removable.

If removal is blocked, the system will display an actionable message explaining exactly what is needed.

Why this rule exists: Credit card limits are not exposed by any payment network or provider, so there is no way to verify in advance that a replacement card can cover the balance. The guardrail ensures the account always retains at least one card that has demonstrably worked.
