Short answer

Yes. Luminous always allows editing line items that have not yet been fulfilled or shipped, even when other lines on the same sales order are already fully shipped. This applies to orders created in Luminous or imported via EDI, API, or the External API.

What you can edit

When you open a partially-shipped sales order in edit mode, Luminous checks each line individually:

Line statusQuantityPrice / Discount / UOMDelete
Not yet fulfilled✅ Editable✅ Editable✅ Allowed
Partially fulfilled (some qty on an FO, rest still open)✅ Editable up to remaining unfulfilled qty❌ Locked❌ Not allowed
Fully shipped❌ Locked❌ Locked❌ Not allowed

For partially fulfilled lines, you can reduce the quantity down to the already-fulfilled amount, but you cannot go below it. All other fields (price, discount, unit of measure, description) are locked on those lines to protect the in-progress fulfillment record.

What you cannot edit

  • Fully shipped or fully fulfilled lines are locked entirely.
  • The product itself cannot be changed on any line once the order is posted — only quantity and pricing fields are editable.
  • Orders from external channels (Shopify, Amazon, ShipStation, TrackStar, etc.) must be edited at the source system. Luminous locks these regardless of fulfillment status.

How to edit a partially-shipped order

  1. Open the Sales Order from Operations → Sales Orders or Operations → Sales Order Grid.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Luminous loads each line's current editability based on fulfillment status. Lines that are fully locked will appear greyed out.
  4. Make your changes to the editable lines.
  5. Save — the order total recalculates automatically.

Tip: If the Edit button is not available, verify that the order source is one of the supported types (Luminous, EDI, API) and that the order has not been cancelled.

Effect on existing invoices

Editing unfulfilled lines updates the sales order. If the order has full-order invoices linked, those invoices are updated to match. Shipment-scoped invoices (auto-created per shipment) are not modified — they permanently reflect what was billed for their specific shipment.
