Orders posted without a complete ship-to address

Some sales channels — TikTok Shop is the most common example — submit orders to Luminous before the customer's full shipping address is available. The address arrives in a separate channel update that may follow minutes or hours later.

Why no fulfillment order is created at posting

Luminous requires a complete ship-to address (recipient name, street line 1, and city) before it can route a fulfillment order to a warehouse or WMS. When an order posts with a blank or incomplete address, auto-generation and auto-push are correctly refused — an order with no destination cannot be dispatched.

What happens when the complete address arrives

When the channel sends an update that fills in a complete ship-to (name + street + city all present), Luminous detects the blank-to-complete transition and automatically re-triggers fulfillment:

ScenarioWhat Luminous does
Channel is configured for auto-push (e.g., TrackStar integration with an auto-push delay) and no fulfillment order exists yetRe-dispatches the auto-push job — the fulfillment order is generated and pushed to the warehouse automatically
Channel uses immediate auto-generation (Smart Fulfillment trigger = Immediate) and no fulfillment order exists yetRe-dispatches the auto-generate job — a fulfillment order is created and held pending push
Channel is set to manual fulfillment generationNo automatic action is taken; you must create the fulfillment order manually once the address is on the order
A fulfillment order already exists (for example, it errored during a previous push attempt because the address was missing)Luminous updates the fulfillment order's address snapshot with the new complete address, then re-pushes it — no duplicate fulfillment order is created

What counts as a complete address?

All three of the following must be non-blank:

  • Recipient name
  • Street line 1
  • City

A partial update (for example, only a street line with no name or city) does not trigger fulfillment order creation.

Checking the status of a stuck order

  1. Go to Operations → Sales Orders and open the order.
  2. Check the ship-to address on the Ship To tab. If it shows a name, street, and city, the address is complete and a fulfillment order should have been (or will shortly be) created.
  3. Open the Fulfillment Orders tab. If an FO exists in Error status, Luminous will have already re-pushed it once the address was updated.
  4. If no FO exists and the address is still blank, the order is waiting for the channel to deliver the address. No manual action is needed — once the channel syncs the complete address, Luminous will create the fulfillment order automatically (provided the channel is not set to manual triggering).

Manual fallback

If the channel never delivers a complete address, or the channel is configured for manual fulfillment generation, you can create the fulfillment order yourself:

  1. Open the posted sales order.
  2. Edit the ship-to address directly on the order if it is still blank.
  3. On the Fulfillment Orders tab, click Actions → Auto Generate Fulfillment Orders (or create one manually via Actions → Create Fulfillment Order).
