Setting up your carton catalog

Cartonization needs to know what shipping boxes you have before it can assign them. You build that list in the Carton Catalog.

Availability: Cartonization is enabled per account. Contact your Luminous account manager if you don't see the options below.

Where to find it

Go to Operations › Operations Admin › Carton Catalog (visible when Cartonization is enabled for your account).

Adding a carton

  1. Click Add carton.
  2. Fill in the fields:
    • Name — a short label your team will recognize (e.g. "Small protein box").
    • Type — Box, Envelope / mailer, or Custom (packer-entered).
    • Inner dimensions — the usable interior length × width × height in inches (or centimeters — the UI converts automatically). The engine uses these to check whether items fit.
    • Empty weight — the box's own tare weight. Added to item weights when estimating shipment weight.
    • Max weight — the heaviest load this box can carry. The engine won't overfill it.
    • Cost — optional; recorded for reporting.
  3. Click Add carton to save.

Tips

  • Add all the box sizes you actually stock. The more complete your catalog, the fewer orders will land in the "Needs packaging" exception state.
  • If a specific product always ships in the same box, set that box as the product's Default carton on the product record. The engine will use it directly without going through the rule-matching step.
