Overview
When a sales order line is allocated to a supply source — an incoming purchase order (PO), on-hand stock, or a preorder reservation — Luminous records a peg linking that line to its source. If you need to undo that assignment before the order ships, you can unallocate it directly from the sales order. The freed quantity immediately becomes available again for other orders or re-allocation.
Before you start
- The Purchase-to-Order feature must be enabled for your account. If you do not see the Supply / Allocations column described below, contact your Luminous administrator.
- You can only reverse an allocation up to the point the order ships. Once a fulfillment order has shipped, the shipped quantity must be handled through a Return.
Step-by-step: unallocating from the Sales Order page
- Open the sales order you want to adjust (e.g., via Operations → Sales Orders in the main navigation).
- In the order's Items table, click the Columns button in the top-right corner of the table.
- Toggle on Supply / Allocations if it is not already visible.
- In the Supply / Allocations column, find the line item and locate the allocation you want to remove. Each peg is shown as a short row describing its source:
- A green check row = shipping from on-hand stock
- A clock row = reserved on an incoming PO
- An hourglass row = a preorder or ship-complete hold
- Click the small ✕ button that appears to the right of the peg row. A banner will appear at the bottom of the screen with the message "Unallocate X unit(s)? The stock returns to available."
- Click Unallocate in that banner to confirm. You have approximately 6 seconds before the banner dismisses itself.
- A confirmation message appears once the action completes and the order automatically refreshes.
What happens after you unallocate
| Situation | What Luminous does |
|---|---|
| PO peg not yet received / preorder / ship-complete hold | The peg is removed. The reserved quantity becomes free-to-allocate on the PO line again (no extra steps needed). |
| On-hand or PO peg already released to a fulfillment order, but order not yet shipped | The fulfillment order is cancelled (or just this line is removed if the fulfillment order covers multiple lines), and the peg is deleted. The stock returns to available. |
| Peg partially shipped | Only the un-shipped remainder is removed. The shipped portion stays intact and must be reversed through a Return. Luminous will confirm how much was dropped and how much remains. |
| Peg fully shipped | The request is blocked. Use the Returns workflow to reverse shipped inventory. |
Every reversal is recorded in the sales order's Activity Log so you have a full audit trail.
Tips
- If a line has more than six allocations, only the first six are shown in the table. Click "+ N more" to open the Allocation Planner, where you can see and manage all pegs for the order.
- After unallocating, the Supply / Allocations column will show the remaining open quantity as "X to allocate" so you can immediately re-source the line from the Allocation Planner.
- You can reallocate the freed quantity at any time using the Allocate order link in the Supply / Allocations column header or through the Allocation Planner.
