Recording payments on foreign-currency invoices

If your account has multi-currency enabled and an invoice is denominated in a foreign currency (e.g., CAD, AUD), Luminous now lets you enter the payment amount directly in that currency — no manual conversion required.

What you'll see

  • The Payment Details section of the Add/View Payments panel displays a note such as · amounts in CAD next to the legend when the invoice is in a foreign currency.
  • The Amount field is labelled Amount (CAD) (or whichever currency applies), making it clear you should enter the figure the customer actually sent.
  • The Total Amount, Net Amount, Total Paid, and Balance Due summary figures are all shown in the invoice currency.
  • The Previous Payments table shows each historical payment in the invoice currency as well.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Sales → Invoices, click the ⋮ menu on the invoice, and choose Add/View Payments (under Payment).
  • The Total Amount, Total Discount, Net Amount, Total Paid, and Balance Due tiles are all shown in the invoice currency.
  1. In the Payment Details section, confirm the currency badge (e.g., · amounts in CAD) is shown — this confirms the invoice is in a foreign currency.
  2. Enter the amount the customer paid in the invoice currency (e.g., 1250.00 for CA$1,250.00). Do not convert to your base currency.
  3. Select the payment type, date, and any notes, then click Add Payment (or Record Payments if multi-tender is enabled).
  4. Luminous stores both the invoice-currency amount and the equivalent base-currency amount automatically.

QuickBooks sync

For tenants with QuickBooks invoice-currency sync turned on, payments are pushed to QuickBooks using the exact foreign-currency amount recorded in step 3, preserving the customer's remittance figure and eliminating rounding differences in QuickBooks AR.

Notes

  • This improvement applies only to invoices in a foreign currency. Base-currency invoices are unaffected.
  • Existing payments recorded before this change will continue to display correctly; their base-currency amounts are converted at the invoice's locked exchange rate for display.
  • Multi-currency must be enabled on your account. Contact your Luminous administrator if you do not see currency labels on the payment form.
