Overview
When you receive orders from an EDI trading partner, Luminous may otherwise try to look up or create a CRM company based on the ship-to name on each order — which can produce duplicates when a single retailer sends orders to many different ship-to addresses. The Default CRM Company setting on a channel pins every incoming order from that trading partner to one specific, existing company record in your CRM, so the correct payment terms, billing details, and pricing rules flow through automatically without creating duplicates.
Steps
1. Open your EDI channel
- In the left-hand navigation, go to Manage → Channels.
- Locate the channel that represents your EDI trading partner and click its name to open it.
- Click Edit (or the edit icon) to enter edit mode.
2. Set the Default CRM Company
- In the general section at the top of the channel form (below Is Internal Sales Channel / Is Customer Specific), find the Default CRM Company field.
- This field only appears on Sales Channel and End-to-End Channel types. If you don't see it, check that the channel type is set correctly.
- Click the search box and start typing the name of the existing customer account (CRM company) you want all orders from this trading partner linked to.
- Select the correct company from the autocomplete results.
Tip: If the company does not appear in the search results, make sure it already exists as a company record in your CRM before completing this step.
3. Save the channel
Click Save. From this point forward, every new order received from this EDI channel is automatically linked to the selected CRM company.
What this setting does
- Links the order to the selected company — Luminous associates each incoming order with the chosen CRM company so that the company's payment terms, due dates, and pricing rules apply when an invoice is generated.
- Does not overwrite shipping or fulfillment data — The setting only writes the company-to-order link. It does not change the ship-to address on the order, the fulfillment warehouse assignment, or any other order field.
- Applies to every new order from this channel — The link is set automatically when the order is created. Existing orders already in Luminous before you saved this setting are not retroactively updated.
Preventing new company records from being created
Setting a Default CRM Company does not automatically disable the Save contact to CRM from orders option. If that option is also turned on for this channel (found in the Order Source section), Luminous will still attempt to create or update a CRM contact based on the customer email and name on each incoming order.
If your goal is to stop any new company or contact records from being created for this trading partner's orders, turn Save contact to CRM from orders off on the same channel.

| Save contact to CRM from orders | Channel → Order Source | Independently creates/updates CRM contacts from order data — turn this off to prevent new records |
