Luminous provides three dedicated import tools under Tools → Imports → Costs & Finance for updating cost and landed-cost data in bulk. Each tool serves a distinct purpose — choosing the right one depends on whether you are working with cost layers or with lot-level landed costs.

At a glance: which tool do I need?

ToolWhat it doesUse when…
FIFO Cost Layer Multi-ValueReplaces all existing cost layers for a SKU + warehouse with a new set you defineYou need to seed or reset cost-layer history
Unit Cost OverrideUpdates the unit cost on existing active cost layers in placeYou need to correct a wrong cost without touching quantities
Lot Landed CostsAdds or updates a landed-cost value against a specific lot number + SKUYou track inventory by lot and need to record per-lot landed costs in bulk

Note: The Unit Cost Override importer is tagged Destructive in the UI — review your data carefully before uploading.

Tool 1 & 2 — FIFO Cost Layer Multi-Value and Unit Cost Override

These two tools let you bulk-manage the cost layers attached to your SKUs. Full step-by-step instructions, column definitions, import modes, and common error fixes are covered in the dedicated article:

👉 How do I perform a cost-layer import and bulk cost override for SKUs in Luminous?

Tool 3 — Lot Landed Costs import

If your products are lot-tracked, you can bulk-assign a landed cost to each lot using the Lot Landed Costs importer. This is separate from the cost-layer tools above — it records the landed (all-in) cost against a specific lot batch rather than adjusting FIFO layers.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Tools → Imports and open the Costs & Finance section.
  2. Click Lot Landed Costs.
  3. Click Download Lot Landed Costs Template.
  4. Fill in the template — each row represents one lot + SKU combination:
ColumnRequired?Notes
LOT_NUMBERYesThe exact lot number as recorded in Luminous
MASTER_SKUYesThe SKU the lot belongs to
DESCRIPTIONNoOptional label or note for this cost entry
LANDED_COSTYesThe landed cost amount for this lot, as a number
  1. Save the file, then on the same page click Select a File to upload it, confirm the column mapping on the Map Columns step, and review the Preview before running the import.
  2. Each row is validated and processed independently. If a row fails validation, that row is skipped and an error is recorded — but other valid rows in the same file are still saved. Review any reported errors, correct the affected rows, and re-upload just those rows.
  3. Once the import completes successfully, verify the results by navigating to the relevant lot records in Luminous.

Tips

  • One row per lot. Each LOT_NUMBER + MASTER_SKU combination should appear once per file.
  • Lot number must exist. The lot must already be recorded in Luminous before you can assign a landed cost to it via import. Rows whose SKU or lot number cannot be found are skipped without being saved, so double-check spelling if a lot's landed cost does not update.
  • LANDED_COST must be a number. Do not include currency symbols or commas.
  • You can import multiple SKUs and multiple lots for each SKU in a single file — each row is processed independently.

Landed costs on purchase orders

If you need to record additional shipping, freight, or duty charges against a purchase order (rather than against a lot), those must be added per-PO after import — they cannot be set in bulk through an import file. See:
