Overview
When an assembly order advances out of Draft into an active status — Issued, In Progress, or Paused — Luminous automatically reserves the required component quantities as pending stock. Those units are no longer available to other orders until the assembly order is completed, returned to Draft, or deleted.
This article explains exactly what happens to inventory at each stage and how you can adjust or release reservations when needed.
What happens when an order moves to Issued
The moment you change an assembly order's status from Draft to Issued (or directly to In Progress or Paused), Luminous:
- Loops through every component line on the order.
- Reads the Actual Qty on each line (not the Planned Qty).
- Adds that quantity to the component SKU's pending stock at the specific warehouse location listed on that component line.
From that point on, the reserved units appear as pending/committed on the component SKU — meaning they are visible as tied up in production and will not be double-allocated to other orders.
Note: Disassembly orders follow the reverse logic and are not affected by this reservation process.
How reservations behave across active statuses
| Status transition | Effect on component reservations |
|---|---|
| Draft → Issued / In Progress / Paused | Reservations are created |
| Issued ↔ In Progress ↔ Paused | Reservations remain in place (no net change to stock) |
| Active status → Draft | Reservations are released |
| Active status → Completed | Reservations are released and components are fully deducted from on-hand |
| Order deleted | Reservations are released |
Can reservations be manually overridden?
There is no standalone button to override or unlock individual component reservations. However, you have three ways to adjust them:
1. Edit the assembly order
While an order is in an active status, you can open and edit it. When you save changes to component quantities or locations, Luminous automatically:
- Releases the old reservations in full.
- Creates new reservations based on the updated component lines.
This is the standard way to increase or decrease how many units of a component are held.
2. Move the order back to Draft
Changing the status back to Draft immediately releases all component reservations. The units return to your available pool. You can then edit the order freely before re-issuing it.
3. Delete the order
Deleting an assembly order (in any status other than Rolled Back) reverses all pending inventory and removes the record entirely.
Stock warning when creating or completing an order
When creating an assembly order where one or more components have insufficient available stock, Luminous shows a Component Stock Warnings dialog. Each affected component is flagged as either:
- Will Deplete — stock will reach zero.
- Insufficient — there is not enough on-hand stock to cover the actual quantity required.
You can choose Cancel to adjust quantities, or Proceed Anyway to create the order despite the shortage.
At completion time, Luminous validates again:
- Active orders (Issued / In Progress / Paused): the system checks that the committed (reserved) quantity is greater than or equal to the required actual quantity. If a shortfall exists, completion is blocked.
- Draft orders being completed directly: the system checks on-hand stock instead.
Summary
- Reservations are created automatically when an order leaves Draft and are based on each component's Actual Qty.
- They remain in place through all active statuses and are only released when the order is completed, returned to Draft, or deleted.
- To adjust reserved amounts, edit the assembly order (which auto-recalculates pending) or move it back to Draft first.
- There is no way to unilaterally unlock a specific component reservation without changing the order itself.
