Short answer

No — the Luminous kit component search automatically filters out Non-Inventory SKUs, so they cannot be selected as kit components through the standard product UI. If a Non-Inventory SKU were somehow present as a component (for example, from a legacy configuration), it would permanently force the kit's available quantity to zero.

When you open a Kit SKU's product page and add or edit its kit components (⋮ → Edit SKU → Kit Items), the SKU search field only returns SKUs whose Product Type is Product. Kit and Non-Inventory type SKUs are excluded from these results by design.

This means:

  • You will not see Non-Inventory SKUs appear in the component search, no matter how you type their name or SKU.
  • If you try to search for a known Non-Inventory SKU, it simply will not appear in the list.

What happens to kit availability if a Non-Inventory component were present

Kit availability is derived entirely from its components — the formula is:

Kit available = the minimum of (component on-hand − component pending) ÷ quantity required per kit, across all components

Because a Non-Inventory SKU is never tracked in your warehouse, it has:

  • On-hand: 0 — no units can ever be received into stock
  • Pending: 0 — no reservations are ever created

Plugging those into the formula gives 0 ÷ quantity = 0 kits available for that component. Since the kit formula takes the minimum across all components, a single component stuck at zero makes the entire kit push zero to every sales channel — regardless of how much stock the other components have.

In short: a Non-Inventory component acts as a permanent bottleneck, locking the kit at zero availability.

What to do if your kit shows zero and you suspect a legacy Non-Inventory component

  1. Go to Inventory → SKUs and open the Kit SKU's product page.
  2. Navigate to the Kit Items tab (to edit, use ⋮ → Edit SKU → Kit Items).
  3. Review each listed component and check its Product Type.
  4. If any component is labeled Non-Inventory, remove it from the kit and replace it with the correct physical SKU, or contact Luminous Support for assistance cleaning up the configuration.
